I'm very happy to finally finish and put this remix out there. The stems have been on my HD for probably close to a decade now! It's a pleasure to bring back Rod Veldt here on Perplexity Music for another outstanding production, this one titled 'Nebula'. Constantly gaining momentum and excelling as each track goes by, it was no doubt that we would see him on the label again and with something that is nothing short of amazing!.

'Nebula', an airy and light track sees to the softer sides of melodic progressive house and that is instantly showcased via the tender percussions that flow in sync with the gorgeous and divine melody line. It is consisted of subtle synths and floaty chords that conjure up an image of the dark but starry skies of space tumbling around you, simply being alone or with others but enjoying the moment for whatever it is in your mind. The beautiful breakdown soothes you further with the blissful soundscape once again creating an immensely serene atmosphere before launching back with the thumping and hooking accents.

This incredible track comes with a stripped down and completely relaxed chilled version for those that want to take it a step further to wind down fully. It retains the beautiful melody line but the addition of the powerful piano that follows the chord work really brings out the calming nature of it. Skillfully placed, each layer and each element is careful joined to bring together a feeling of pure contentment, the music serving as the perfect background to it. The light percussions that are added give it a lovely touch, just ever so gentle & yet enough to keep the pace of relaxation to a nice, even rhythm.

This package in itself just shows how two different tracks can bring about the same range of quality and emotions that flows through each second played. Truly a beautiful production to have on the label and one we hope you enjoy as much as we did.

I got a call from Miles Leonard (President of Parlophone EMI Virgin) to talk about a project of Blur's Damon Albarn. It was called Gorillaz. Not a band as such, more of a collective of collaborators. They had inadvertently caught some heat, by way of a 2-Step Garage Remix of "Clint Eastwood". BBC Radio 1 weren't giving the original a lot of spins and decided (to keep in with its core audience) to do a radio edit of this popular dance mix. Since this version wasn't representative of what Gorillaz were about, EMI & Albarn initially weren't keen but relented to public demand. I was given a copy of all their demo's and unfinished/finished tracks for what was to be their debut album. The brief was "pick one that you can produce, remix or whatever into a hit single". I gave them all a listen and, nothing immediately screamed 'potential hit'. Regardless, I sent over a proposed budget for one song of their choosing. Things went quiet for a few weeks or so. I then got a call a few weeks later saying "Jamie Howlett has already started working on a video for the song "19-2000" - we'd really love it if you took that song and made into a hit". To my ears, it was a ropey durgy old demo lacking a great melody, let alone a big hook. After striking a deal with Miles, I agreed to do it. The fee (including production recording/mixing costs) wasn't what I wanted but he said "I promise I will make it up to you on another record". Well, 15 years later... He never did keep his promise! As far as creativity was concerned,  his exact words were "you have carte blanche to do whatever you want". What happened next was nightmare-ish 10 days....  [MORE TO FOLLOW]
