Mizik Sa

Aganman means "chameleon". This song is about the wisdom of avoiding friction by blending with one's surroundings without betraying one's soul. It is a quest for peace and co-existence. Sung in Creole in this "daki" concept where literal translation does not reveal the real meaning of one's words. 

1 Aganman Vlopen We Dela Etan

This is an arrangement for a philharmonic orchestra of one of the most famous Haitian folk songs and sung by Lumanne Casimir, the late diva of Haitian folk music. The chords and progressions are based on the "natif" concept which I came up with.

Lumane Casimir Chante Vive Haiti

Piece written for a string septet divided in 2 quartets--Lead violin, violin, viola, cello and Lead Violin, viola, cello and double bass. Innovation in Haitian classical music--this genre is called "Sètfwasèt.". The lead violin is playing 7 themes but each quartet approaches each theme on a different key. This piece is bi-tonal. 49 bars are written for each theme--different meters, tempos and keys. This song is one of the most famous Haitian folk songs. I have arranged it, used it as an example in my book Kantik Natif, Volim I, in order to codify the “natif” concept. It is also one among a few others that I will arrange with this instrumentation–clairnet and piano. All exclusive rights have been assigned to the “Société de Recherche et de Diffusion de la Musique Haïtienne (SRDMH) based in Montreal.
