Appearing on the 20 year anniversary compilation from Drumcode, Truncate remixed "Miss You" off of my album, "Monoliths." Most remixes these days are completely different tracks from the original with almost zero material from the original. However, I think David did a great job of basically using only the source material actually 'remix' into it a completely new techno banger. People have been asking for this one for over a year, and it now it will finally be available.

One of the most exciting artists to emerge in techno circles in recent times, Drumcode is excited to present the label’s first EP from Boxia.

Over the last 12 months the UK artist has impressed with his classy take on techno that mines two decades of rave. Last year’s ‘Colour Sequence’ EP on We Are The Brave marked one of 2017’s standout releases, before being tapped by Maya Jane Coles to remix a track from her latest album ‘Take Flight’, while B.Traits also shone the spotlight on him for a Future 12 residency on BBC Radio 1 throughout September. Boxia first came into contact with Adam Beyer when he opened the Car Park at Tobacco Dock for LWE’s NYD event in 2016, and since then the pair have spoken regularly sharing similar tastes in music and DJing. He dropped his first cut on DC during the summer of ’16, with ‘Revolution’ that featured on A-Sides Vol. 5, making him primed and ready for his first full length EP in 2018.

The four-track work lives up to his growing reputation for crafting beautiful, nuanced and ultimately very powerful electronic music. The EP opens with ‘No World Order’, a deep transcendental slice of techno propelled by a wicked acid line and vocal that leads to a galloping finish. ‘Only Human’ is drenched in atmosphere and old skool wonder, a brilliant composition of punchy multi-layered drum work, catchy synth lines and cutting acid that reveals its tender side with emotive broken beat interludes. ‘Unreal’ is a big peak time belter, raising the tempo to sweaty palms level, as a propulsion of acid and a memorable riff fill the technosphere. The title track ‘Ethereal Education’ closes out the work, a beautiful chord-driven vocal cut that evokes images of the classic dance that characterised Boxia’s earlier years and makes a fitting outro to this outstanding EP.

Josh Garcia aka Modus has built a steady reputation for being one of the up and coming musical tastemakers, selectors, and producers. The Los Angeles native is a musically trained drummer and guitarist — music naturally became an innate part of Modus’ life.

Today we premiere one of the two tracks that form his latest "Perceptions" EP, out on Understated Recordings (@understatedla) this coming May 15th.

"‘My Love’ is an oldie, but a goody for me. I was sitting on this track for a while and recently played it at an Understated party. The crowd reacted strongly to it and I decided to include it in this EP as the B-side. I really enjoy the vocals in the breakdown and it works wonders on the dance floor. The idea of perception has always resonated with me. The way we perceive and are perceived shapes reality. Through

New adventures means new grooves for the founder of @say-less-records. Digging in crates during his travels to Portugal, Amsterdam, and Belgium the label boss discovered inspiration in the form of minimal house and techno leading to the creation of his newest EP ‘Azul’.

The first track ‘Spaced’ is a great way to start off a minimal set. The beginning of the track has a nice progression with a room filling low end and intoxicating drum patterns which comes to a peak with atmospheric synth work.

With almost five months into 2019 and Canadian label microCastle is ready to release its second huge EP, 'Sabbath' of the year by Speaking In Tongues. Aside from three original tracks, 'Sabbath', 'Mood Swing' and 'Eraser', the two lastly mentioned tracks are provided with remixes from Mathias Schober and in-demand duo Zombies In Miami, who are currently on fire and sprinkled their magical music on labels such as Correspondant, Cin Cin, Permanent Vacation or Love On The Rocks. It's their versatility and ability to combine soundscapes and elements from different genres in one track - namely techno, rock, disco and indie-dance. With their remix for 'Eraser' Canibal and Jenice alias Zombies In Miami deliver a mind-twisting take, fully focussing on creaking synth-sounds accompanied with spheric multi-tonal chords and topped with a disco-ish seeming semi-tonality or simple said some easy tones that add even more drive to the track but are also used as a counterpart to the aforementioned soundscapes. The result is an interaction of feelings, of slowing things down before being pulled out of the spheric comfort zone to the dance floor.

Caustic, dense and centred around complex but exquisitely executed percussive motifs and driven, rising sequences - many would argue an alliance between Shifted’s heady, monochrome recordings and Lucy’s beloved Stroboscopic Artefacts label is long overdue. The music draws on much of the British producer’s previous work, assembled carefully using a characteristic sonic palette - but as ever, Brewer finds fresh space between sounds - showing off a tentatively more extroverted side to his work. 

Title track The Light Touch is perhaps one of Shifted’s more idiosyncratic pieces. Instantly recognisable with it’s heavily granular finish and subtle shifts in delay and reverb composition, the track is rich with groove and moves relentlessly across it’s five minute run time. 

Seel showcases the artist’s talent for building tension with minimal elements - built around a single warping lead, noise tracks drift in and out of the mix to generate effective builds and subtle releases. EP closer, Mixen, riffs on it’s predecessor’s approach but strips back the percussive elements further and ups the ante with searing drone signals rising up above the lead sequence driving the track.

As ever, Brewer’s musical output looks to the heart of the genre - remaining true to purist sensibilities that favour economy of sonic components and studio prowess over unnecessary fanfare, but all the while forging new ground & refining a genuinely personal aesthetic. A powerful debut on a label in fine form that represents some of the best of the British artist’s work.
