Expect Us - Welcome To The Basement (BOC005)

Box Of Cats has always been a journey and boy has it been fun so far. We started in very humble beginnings only releasing our own records and then to signing young producers around the world and to now releasing music from our favourite artists and heroes of our own.

6 Months ago we started a mixtape series over our socials ‘B.O.T’ which stands for Box Of Trax. We wanted our artists to showcase what they love about music and Box of Cats. This means something different to everyone, so we wanted to get an idea of what that was and i think we figured it out!

We dont only release house music, we dont only release tech house, we dont only release BANGERS, but we do release music we believe in and that is not always the same ‘genre’.

So as a label for all shapes and sizes we have decided to make a new compilation series dedicated to the phat, skinny and everything in the middle. From that we welcome you to Volume 1 of the B.O.T.

First up we have Option4, Vanilla Ace & Dj Glen, Botnek, Monista, The Sponges and our very own label owner Jeff Doubleu.

There is something for everyone in this pack as you see some of our biggest artists hit the stage.

Golden Features - 1991 (Go Freek Remix)

A long time ago in a galaxy far away lived Jedi. Their job was to keep the universe safe from the ever increasing threat of the Empire. Sadly, the Jedi were wiped out and the Empire took over the universe with its evil agenda. This left an unlikely duo from Miami Florida with no choice but to bear arms and strike the Empire head on.

This is really just a story of House Music vs EDM and how Nik and Ryan AKA ' @TheSponges ' took the world by storm with their hybrid form of catchy disco hooks and infectious house grooves. 

After their first hit record "Make It Juicy!” which garnered support from Malaa, Jauz, AC Slater, Motez, Destructo, Aston Shuffle, Ardalan, Golf Clap, Marc Spence and many many more, the boys bring you their debut EP. 

I Can Dance and Space Funk '75 are both in their own rights lead singles but for you, the listener, we could not hold onto these any longer. That would not be fair. As well as these, on the flip we have label boss Jeff Doubleu putting a dark twist on Space Funk '75. A real 4am jam. 

Trying to convince you in a few paragraphs how unique this EP is wouldn't be enough. It would be like trying to convince a Star Wars fan that Jar Jar Binks deserved his lead roll in Episode I... But unlike Jar Jar, The Sponges are here to stay.

It was one year ago that Canadian house music duo Cloverdale burst onto the scene with their debut track, Eat That. In only one year Cloverdale have found their raw, forward thinking and full of energy sound. The Halifax duo, comprised of bass music heavy hitter, AWAL and ultimate house head Jarett MacNeil had a big year packing rooms and dance floors across the East Coast of Canada + beyond. 

To celebrate their 1-Year Anniversary, Cloverdale presents “Eat That: The Remixes” out everywhere on Feb. 28th, 2019. The 4 track EP features the anticipated Cloverdale Eat That VIP as well as huge remixes from @awaltheawal @wegotthedope and @asurmusic .

As an act from the east coast Canadian city of Halifax, the Cloverdale boys are stoked to be able to showcase a remix pack featuring Halifax based producers. The city has become a hotbed of new and creative talent. This remix EP is a real product of that movement.

We pride ourselves on listening to every demo we are sent which means no dope track will slip between the cracks. This is a big process but is extremely rewarding. Litterbox has always been a great way to showcase the vast array of demos we are sent. Its a way to bring like minded producers, listeners and dj's together and showcase all styles of house music in one tidy package. This release is almost entirely fresh faces which goes to show how many artists are doing it right!

Friends are something we cannot live without.

From morning till night (sometimes night till morning) we are surrounded by friends that help us, talk to us or in this case collaborate with us.

With a population of Brazil growing over 200 Million, I imagine it is probably easy for Leandro aka @Rocksted to make friends! It makes perfect sense as to why he has sent over five brand new records with all of his best friends.

Bringing into the fold we have the 'could-be-model' FractaLL, South African super hero TommyV and Cahio a local legend around Brazil.

Listening to this EP yet again just solidifies the importance of friendship.

The numbers 808 get thrown around quite a lot. So much in fact that you will often hear pop records talking about them when they may not even be present. Who am I though to be sour about the celebration of the worlds best drum kit.. Yes I said DRUM KIT. Fight me.

Although these tracks don’t scream ‘808’, their release date 8/08 is something to remember. Its a celebration of electronic music and what a better way to celebrate that than a chunky world class compilation.

Worthy and Lisbon Sisters, Astronomar and Return of The Jaded lead the pack with their heavy hitting club weapons. Then we have label potato heads ‘The Potato Heads’ keeping it warm over two of our favourite artists Mancodex & FOOLiE.

Box Of Trax has always been about grabbing those fat ass A sides and bringing them together for you, so don’t @ us when you blow your speakers ;)

After the last 5 months, if you don't KNOW The Sponges, you have certainly unknowingly heard them. With only one official release under their belt it’s hard to think how they have garnered such huge support like Chris Lake, Destructo, Walker & Royce, Justin Martin, Kyle Watson, Vnssa and many many many more. They were even the soundtrack to a viral twitter video...

Their second solo release ‘Funked Up’ is what you would expect. Its crammed full of funk, grit and cheeky unknown samples. If James Brown produced Tech House, this is him. That is why Toyota made Lexus. Lexus is for the people who like the finer things in life, to spice things up and go all in.

@Ekoboy is exactly that. Its what you have come to know and love of Vangelis Kostoxenakis but with LUXURY! A cleaner more advanced version of himself.

We are so pleased to bring his debut EP to you with all the quirk and raw you can expect from a VK release. Salty Maria is peak time madness, Break Down touches base on the chunkier side of life while Everybody makes everybody whip out their Shazam to find out “what the hell is this track!”.

One of our favourite people in the industry is Worthy. A man who is always in a great mood and down for whatever. Its people like this in the industry that keep it moving forward and really help shape the attitudes and community we are all apart of. In other words he is a hero.

Aside from running his own label Anabatic and still being a key player in Dirtybird, Worthy still managers to find time to write certified bangers set only to destroy dance floors. We first signed his collaboration with the Lisbona Sisters on our most recent BOT series and we just needed more. So here are 2 more heaters that just can’t be skipped.
