This is a little ditty I came up with in May 2023. The original plan was to make a song based on interjections like er, um, oh and so on, Then I decided to add other words to make it more interesting. The tune came to me as I was playing around with some chords. on the uke.

In this recording all the instrumental parts are played on the baritone ukulele.

This song came to me in August 2023 when I was playing with words related to stuff and nonsense. This recording features me singing and playing the baritone ukulele. The chords are Bm, Fm and Em.

Stuff and Nonsense

This is a song I wrote in September 2023 inspired by some of the silly phrases that come up in the Scottish Gaelic lessons on Duolingo. It's in the style of a waulking song, a type of song that was traditionally sung in Scotland while women were waulking tweed cloth. This involved pounding it on a table to shrink it and make it more watertight. Songs helped pass the time and gave a rhythm to the work.

This is a little ditty I came up with in October 2023 based on the saying 'the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence'.

This is a song in the style of a sea shanty that I came up with in May 2024 for no particularly reason.

Terms & Conditions

This is a tune I wrote in April 2017, played on the harp, high and low whistle, piano, cavaquinho and ocarina. The ocarina makes the tweeting sounds at the end.

The title came to me after looking out of my kitchen window one day and seeing the hedge in my garden full of sparrows. I didn't mange to get a photo then, but this is a photo I took of sparrows, and blackbirds, in a bush on Bangor seafront.

This is a new recording of a tune I wrote in January 2016, played on the harp, with each part recorded separately. I used a pūrerehua (a kind of bull roarer from New Zealand) to makes the wind noises.

The Whirlwind / Y Troellwynt

I wrote this tune in 2015. It came to me while noddling around on the cavaquinho, and as it had a bell-like quality to it, I decided to use bells in the title. Hirael is the area of Bangor where I live. The photo is one I took of Hirael Bay and Porth Penrhyn.

This version is played on the cavaquinho, with multiple parts recorded separately.

Dancing on Air / Dawnsio ar Awyr

I wrote this tune in October 2017 on the mandolin. I decided to write something in D and in one octave, and this is what emerged. This recording features the mandolin, guitar, cavaquinho, piano and whistle.

The day I recorded it was very wet, and just as I finished recording, the sun came out, briefly - that's where the name comes from. I took the photo the same day from my back garden, looking towards Bangor mountain.
