Deeper and deeper, somehow the planets aligned and the music all went in that direction. Yeah this is druggy. Find a darkened room, turn this up as loud as hell, indulge in whatever you like to indulge in. And enjoy.

I know you needed someone that would be there for you

I realised I'm still a vinyl DJ at heart, even when I'm mixing digitally (as here). I'm not interested in tricks, loops or artificial breakdowns unless they feel musical (which they usually don't, they're just DJ show-off stuff or an easy way to get a crowd worked up for 30 seconds).

Let the music do the work. I just take care of track curation, sequence and transitions. It's enough.

I like transitions that make harmonic and emotional sense. There should be some kind of progression and journey in a good set. Maybe this mix wouldn't work in a club, but hey. It will still get you shuffling, trust me.

But it makes sense to me musically. I hope someone out there listens to the whole thing and enjoys the entirety of it.

Daniele's Birthday - Live at Arch 535 Brixton

This mix started life wanting to be a slouchy, sexy, chilled Sunday night affair. But although there are chunky house grooves aplenty, some of it headed into a more trippy, cinematic direction. I don't know what happened, the music decided where it wanted to go.

The mixing style is a bit different too. My last few mixes had loads of super long transitions and overlays. But here each track is a kind of call and response to the previous one, so the mixes are more compact, based on musical phrases and not on gradual transitions.

Keep Chasing Until You Find What's Deep Inside

Back in the day some of these tracks would have been labelled as progressive house. But that genre sadly became just as formulaic and tedious as all its relatives - trance, tech trance, tech house and so on.

Luckily there are still great artists making music that doesn't fit the formulas. And it's those tracks that I hunted down for this deep, slightly trancey mix . It still clings to the bones of house, but only just.

This mix was originally put together for a radio station. But it took me way too long to deliver and they never accepted it. So here it is for your listening pleasure. Also on rotation at flowerthrower.com of course.

Hoary old tech-house but it seemed to go down quite well back in the day....

Sampled with no regard whatsoever for the copyright of the original artist. And if anyone knows who that is, pat yourself on the back. It's quite obscure.

I've got a feeling

This is the last track written by me and Neil (together, Agent Automatic), in October 2009. It was released on Fortified Recordings in 2010.

A friend described it as "Richie Hawtin goes to Ibiza". That'll do for me.
