Tracks using Behringer synths

Testing my Behringer Neutron on this jump-blues improvisation. The synth backing was played in paraphonic mode in one take, and the lead was played on a Casio DH-100 Digital Horn controlling the Neutron via MIDI. Drums were programmed in Hydrogen, and the bass guitar is real.

Neutron Boogie

The main sound is an electric guitar controlling a Behringer Neutron monophonic synth via a Sonuus B2M pitch-to-MIDI converter. Organ is a Yamaha Reface CS polysynth. Bass is a Stagg electric upright. Drums and percussion are a Korg KR Mini.

Skalypso

What Then Is Love

J S Bach's "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring" played in real time on two paraphonic analogue synthesisers from one keyboard.  A Behringer Neutron is handling the highest and lowest notes, and passing on other notes via MIDI to a Korg Volca Keys in 3-voice paraphonic mode. The Korg is producing a filter-swept, percussive tone, while the Neutron has a powerful sustained sound. Reverb was added afterwards in Audacity.

Bach1

An eerie soundscape created by me and my son with three overdubs from a Behringer Neutron semi-modular synth. In each case the synth is completely autonomous (free-running) and generating its own semi-random part; quasi-vocal sounds, howling wind, and dripping water.

Soundscape 1

Joseph Haydn's "St Anthony Chorale", played in one take on three analogue synths controlled from the same keyboard.

The instruments used are a Behringer Neutron in 2-note paraphonic mode, poly-chained to a Korg Volca Keys in 3-note paraphonic mode, with a Dubreq Stylophone S2 tracking the Neutron's lowest note via its CV and gate outputs, and fed through the Neutron's filter.

Haydn

The 1923 jazz standard, using the Behringer Neutron analogue synth for the two solo parts, backed by acoustic archtop guitar and double bass.

Abbreviated version of George Frederick Handel's Hornpipe from his "Water Music", played in real time on synthesisers.

Handel

Another Baroque-style improvisation, this time using two Behringer semi-modular synths, a Neutron and a Crave, patched together to create a 3-oscillator, two-filter monophonic system, with the resulting sound fed into the Neutron's analogue delay to provide incidental harmonies.

Gavotte

"Jingle Bells", played using nothing but a Behringer Crave analogue synthesiser and an electric upright bass.

Jingle Bells

A collaboration between myself (Behringer Neutron without external controller) and my elder son Thomas (electric guitar, fretless bass, drum programming). The synth and guitar were recorded in a single take, with the Neutron's LFO synced to the drums within the DAW, and then the bass was overdubbed and the drums edited.

Signs of Spring

The backing drone is a Behringer Neutron with sample-and-hold pitch-mod and a slewed square-wave shifting it up and down by a semitone. 

This is synced to a very old Yamaha RX-21 drum machine. 

Wurlitzer piano is from my Nord Electro 6D, as is the main brass part, using a sound sampled from a long-defunct Casio keyboard. 

The baritone sax part is the Neutron's oscillators patched through a Behringer Crave's VCF and played from a 1980s Casio MIDI horn. 

The bass is my Stagg electric upright, played through a Behringer ADI21 preamp.

Hivemind

A lilting instrumental featuring analogue lead synth backed by drum machine, banjo, harmonica and upright bass.

One of Their Agents

7 minutes of procedural soundscape (no human intervention at all) using a Behringer Crave, Behringer Neutron, and a Yamaha Reface CS driven by a Sonuus B2M pitch-to-MIDI unit from the audio output of the Neutron.

Dance of the Isopods

I'm a self-taught multi-instrumentalist living in London, England. My main instruments are keyboards, bass guitar and double bass, but I also play electric and acoustic guitars, ukulele, 6-string banjo and chromatic harmonica, and I will have a go at anything else that makes a noise.

My musical roots are in the Blues, but my recordings range in style from country to punk to experimental, with bits of funk, jazz and retro movie soundtrack thrown in. And hopefully a bit of humour...
