IMAANI’s career has been quite a journey for this country girl from Derby who jumped on a train to London at the age of 19 and never looked back.

Nurtured by the legendary JOCELYN BROWN, IMAANI’s talent was soon discovered with cousins CARLEEN & JHELISA ANDERSON & TALKIN LOUD’s URBAN SPECIES all taking her on tour.

British Soul Institution INCOGNITO was IMAANI’s next port of call as she became a permanent fixture on their perpetual live show and on numerous albums.

Another highlight and in her own words ‘the biggest night of my life’ saw IMAANI perform to well over 100 million people and finish second in the 1998 EUROVISION SONG CONTEST. 

Moving into the dance world, IMAANI teamed up with COPYRIGHT, delivering the anthems ‘WIZEMAN’, ‘BRING ME LOVE’ & ‘NOBODY’, all on DEFECTED RECORDS.

In the last 3 years another blossoming partnership has been that of  IMAANI & THE LAYABOUTS, firstly through the boys remix of her single ‘FOUND MY LIGHT’ and latterly with ‘FEARLESS’ & ‘TOO LATE’ both songs featuring on the album FUTURE RETRO.

2013 will see the release of IMAANI’s debut solo album.

Exclusive: Flume - Insane ft. Moon Holiday (L D R U Remix)

The Balearic Gabba Soundsystem is back, back with a new EP that features three more leftfield remixes from curious electronic specialist Enzo Elia that have all been licensed officially by Irma Records. The source material for his three unhinged reworks is a track by 90s Italian house duo Soft House Company and two from cult Italian DJ and producer Don Carlos.

Soft House Company released only two EPs, both in 1990, but made a big impact with them: pretty much everyone has heard ‘What You Need’ and that’s the track that gets remixed here. Elia turns it into a slightly more bouncy and disco leaning cut with raw silvery drums, huge vamping piano chords and those classic vocal cries and already Eddie C and Gerd Jansen have been playing it. At the breakdown there is the sound of waves breaking on a beach before pianos go wild: It’s a freewheeling and sure fire party starting track that still does the trick nearly quarter of a century after original release.

Don Carlos was behind such seminal club tracks as 1991’s ‘Alone’ and produced five studio albums in the nineties and naughties. He fuses Afro rhythms with deep house vibes and has DJed all over the world since the 70s. The first of his to get re-worked is ‘Overture’, which starts with tropical bird cries, whistles and loon calls. It’s the sound of a humid jungle that gets slowly consumed by lush pads, delicate piano melodies and stirring string sounds. With a truly magical atmosphere and uplifting joyousness permeating the whole thing, it cannot fail to make you feel on top of the world.

Finally, Elia tackles ‘Chicago’ (a track that’s already been supported by Soft Rocks) and does so with swathes of mesmeric effects. Organic hand congas, breathy vocal snippets and a bristling nebula of synths, pads and strings all dance around each other in reservedly euphoric symphony.

This might just be one of the most beautifully and bizarrely Balearic releases yet from the ever unhinged Balearic Gabba Soundsystem.

Following the great success of 'ANGEL' we are now ready with the next Noir single on Noir Music.

'MY FAULT' features the emotional, soul drenched vocals and lyrics of Berlin based singer HRRSN, that heart wrenchingly reflect the deep regrets and inner conflicts of a failed relationship. The emotive vocals are fused with penetrating synths and heavy beats to create the perfect contrast against the vulnerability that's inherent in his words.

Vince Montana Jr left us on April 13, he was 85 years. 

He spent most of them writing, playing and arranging beautiful music. You can hear playing vibraphone (or vibes for short) on pretty much EVERY recording that came out of Philadelphia's Sigma Sound Studio from the late 60s to the mid 80's.

He was playing the vibes with MFSB, composers Gamble & Huff's studio supergroup, the core of what is known as the Philly Sound. He conducted the same musicians as his own Salsoul Orchestra giving them many classic Disco songs, amongst them the infamous Runaway with Loleatta Holloway on vocals on which you can clearly hear Vince's trademark vibes licks. 

In the 90's newer school House producers got him back in the studio and he arranged strings for Mousse T, DJ Meme and most notably for MAW collaborating on the Braxton's cover of the Boss and remaking his own classic Runaway.  

When I first heard "The Way U Love Me" I immediately asked to remix it and a budget to be able to get Vince to score the strings and vibes in Philadelphia. I was certain the song could be turned into a Philly Sound classic. Despite suffering with major illness at the time Vince enthusiastically accepted and made my dream come true.

The T.S.O.P. version of "The Way U Love Me" is the remix I'm the most proud of. It features a cast of more than 30 people, each one of them putting a part of their soul in the recording.
The mix you can hear on this page is an unreleased instrumental edit where the forefront is taken by the string orchestra and vibraphone solos.

As India was saying in the NuYorican Soul remake of Runaway:
"Vince, play them vibes for us just one more time"
