Funny story: while zapping through TV this summer, I came across the video clip of this 1996 hit by French pop singer Zazie and immediately felt the potential of its surprisingly dreamy, breakbeat instru ✨

So here is an edit mixing both instrumental versions with and without choirs, playing around with percussion loops and female choirs to give a dancefloor twist to this pop track 🕺

About one year after our Vol. 2, clubs and dancing bars were closed again in France. This sad news made us decide to launch again our Edits series, slightly renaming it “Paradise edits”. Fortunately, the good contacts we made through the last year helped us pulling together this new compilation quite fast. First, we had the Brooklyn duo Fundido, part of Earth Beat crew, with whom we had been chatting for quite a while and talked many times about having an edit from then. Then, we asked Sputnik, a DJ from Moscow to join, as we were enchanted by his work for That’s A Steal and his release on Gop Tun records earlier this year. A few days later, Nicolas Kotowicz, another Russian artist, contacted us to share his edit and we thought he would be a perfect addition to the comp. Finally, Latane introduced us to Lloyd with a bunch of edits and we were very keen to include him too.
Here’s the result of their works and a few questions we asked them about their stories and their approach to edits.

Unknown - Loe (Sputnik Edit)

Marma Boog reaches for the sixth gear on OTE010 laying down three no nonsense, mind melters. Marma Boog hits with an Italo mix of ‘Hypnotizing a Kookaburra’ to kicks things off. Proper hyperspace pumper business, synth hypnotism with that cosmic kookaburra in tow.

On the flip a dark percussive, tribal-tinged chugger in the form of the Mood Mix with a familiar vocal that sits all to sweetly in the midst of the psychedelic stomping.

Keeping it on a similar tip and rounding off the EP in style, ‘East of Canada’ powers on through - a downtempo, piano poised, acid-laden trip to expand your mind.

Fragments of memory float like light on a forgotten ribbon, weaving shadows in colors that never arrive. Beneath still waters, silence breathes in hidden symmetry, until the horizon turns golden and dissolves into infinite echoes.

SOBO’s parent label, Arbutus Records, requested alternate dance mixes of Moon King’s hit album “Voice Of Lovers” from three long time companions: Dane, Cooper Saver and SOBO’s own Patrick Holland. All created and collected for SOBO’s 10th record. Smashing out the gate is Cooper’s mix of “Free Time”. His signature percussion and arp combo barrels down the scope of the song without ever coming up for air. Aptly chosen as the lead single, this mix gets the music video treatment from the elusive Dr. Cool. On the other side of the spectrum, Dane and Patrick rework “6 Months”, into two unique mellow trips. While Dane’s focuses on the groove, Patrick’s aims for the heartstrings.

Dance for Relief is a way to use our music to help raise funds for causes that we are passionate about. The second release in the series is a compilation of edits, remixes and secret weapons from various friends, with Volume 2 focusing on summery, festival-ready house sounds.

As before all proceeds raised from this release will go straight to Direct Relief (directrelief.org), a charity whose mission is to improve the health and lives of people affected by poverty or emergencies, and who are doing great work to ensure that protective gear and critical care medications get to as many health workers as possible. Their work continues to be particularly important in the midst of the current Covid-19 pandemic and beyond.

Finally, we'd like to say a huge thank you to all the artists involved who have given their skills and time during a difficult period to help make this release happen, in support of a worthy cause.
