A song about mortality and love, inspired by lodgers, gardening and the beginnings of faith. The chorus was an accidental (by design?) discovery whilst trying it out at the Monday club here in Richmond. Members of the audience seemed to be shining like angels. (Don't think it was the beer). Went to a gig with Ben Reed. Was telling a friend how I had a great new song but no story. Ben asked me to tell how Francoise and I got engaged (many moons ago). So that became the song!

3 years ago went with David Cooke and others to plant out a church in Barnes. This is the song I wrote before going, images of water etc. David preaches a lot about Grace (Thank God!) and I think it can be safely said (with a full church most Sundays) the truth of God's Love has been shed abroad.

Writing a song like children do, perhaps, in the way Picasso copied his children's paintings. 
B.T.W. Painting not of Charlotte, but her mother, my wife, pregnant with Charlotte's brother in 1992. Françoise posed for me watching a tiny tv, in my studio, a disused railway signals station box, now turned into flats in Kew.

Simon Klein is a painter and musician whose influences include Syd Barrett to Dark Side of the Moon era Pink Floyd, with a clear love for the Beatles, and a touch of Canterbury scene whimsy.
