Auster Loo Collective is bringing a breath of fresh air into Belgium's acoustic music scene. The band features top-notch Belgian musicians. Within the collective, they take up the challenge of putting their backgrounds at the service of a new musical language. Under the artistic direction of Simon Leleux, they set off in search of uncharted territories.
What emerges is a singular universe, the result of a unique alchemy between uprootedness and anchoring. Poignant, dreamlike melodies alternate with rhythmic, high-energy compositions. Each musician adds his or her own unique touch, creating an original sound that blends the distinctive subtlety of the koto with the playful melodies of the West African kora, piano and double bass, flute and Iranian setar, percussion and vocals.
Auster Loo was originally a duo made up of Simon Leleux, a specialist in oriental percussion (doholla, bendir, composition) and flutist Lydie Thonnard (flutes, vocals). Their shared passion for rhythm and improvisation was inspired by their encounters with musicians from all horizons. Auster Loo Collective is the logical continuation of these encounters, and they begin a new chapter with the release of their first album in March 2024 with Igloo Records.

We are born from our mother. Our common experience our life starts with tremendous affection and care. So in that respect, females have this special responsibility. Now, again, scientists say when someone is passing through difficulties, painful experiences that biologically, females have the feeling of [being] more sensitive to others' pain. With that background, I think the young children should receive maximum affection, and then parents, and particularly mothers should spend more time with their children. This, I think, is very important. So, mother is, I think the person who introduced to us the value of love, value of compassion. So, real teacher in every human being's life the real teacher of compassion, is our mother.

Since the first sparks of civilization in the Indus Valley, the Fertile Crescent, and the banks of the Nile, man has built monuments in the name of gods — and broken others in the name of dominion. From the Vedic chants to Greek philosophy, from Buddha’s silence to Christ’s cross, the world has heard many truths. Yet, in the age of machines and markets, the Mother Earth, once venerated as Prithvi, Gaia, or Pachamama, is now scarred and weeping.
Mother Nature, once humanity’s womb and temple, has been dissected, commodified, and ignored. The rivers have dried not because she abandoned us, but because we dammed her breath. The forests have fallen not from time, but from our axes of profit.
And now, the Kalki stands not at the edge of the battlefield, but at the edge of extinction.
