Both eyes open for OLIIV. This International Women's Day we are welcoming to our line up Return to Rio resident and multi talented and passionate music industry creative OLIIV. Its astonishing to find out OLIIV only started on her DJ journey in 2019 with how immersed in the industry she has become. Not only can she mix dreamy tunes as you hear here in this podcast hence being snapped up by one of Australia's most well loved festival brands Return To Rio as a resident real quick. OLIIV is the founder of The Fan Club Collective who she runs a Sunday session with the Fan Club residents once a month called "Sanctuary" at The Norfolk. 

Also a strong hand in event production, OLIIV can be found running fully immersive events at The Factory Theatre (Next one is March 12th this coming weekend). Also taking on the boutique festival creating running a small festival with a collective of artists called "Neomenia". Need more podcasts Oliiv also runs a podcast series called “The Fan Club Friends”.

Impressed?! We are! Women like this coming up in the ranks of the electronic music industry make us feel really positive that the future is bright for female artists and that the industry is making more room for female artists to tell their stories and create beautiful spaces for all of us to feel safe, free and expressed in electronic music. That's something we are here for seeing. Welcome OLIIV. To all the women (and gentlemen) in the industry making it a better place for the next generation of women! Simon Lloyd - Some background

My musical background emanated in North Kent in the late 80’s around the time of acid jazz, rare groove and the onset of rave culture and house music. Early influences arrived from The Globe and Slammer in Gravesend and the Red Lion in Northfleet.  There was an absorbing scene in Kent and London, Pete Tong was in Gravesend and championing house music on Capital Radio at the time - tracks were sourced and shared on cassette compilations then records bought each weekend in Soho.

I bought records from an early age, originally early electronic and new wave music as my taste buds grew, blossomed and defined. I honestly have so many genres that shaped my musical background and still buy vinyl to this day from film scores to jazz.

Through holding a decent record collection the usual hiatus into dj’ing was next, playing a few pubs and bars in Gravesend and at my local cricket club - combinations of early 90's indie, hip hop and house/dance, also the odd wedding and 21st birthday (sigh).

A combination of work, travel and hockey meant I listened to music and went to clubs for the next few years, deciding in 2000 to enrol on a DJ/promotion type course in Bristol after which I’ve self promoted myself through playing out, meeting like minded people and ultimately (and importantly) playing good and varied music.

I've hosted my own radio shows on Soultrain Radio and GWR Radio.

Whilst there’s never been any meteoric rise for me in any way - it’s about the music, through my passion for music and willingness to work hard I’m in a very happy place where I can play many of the styles I like. 

Right Now

I’m currently one half of the The Back Room, the brainchild of Luke Stereo and I. A 21st century Balearic acid disco, joining the dots between sci-fi disco, dub, acid house, balearica, afrobeat, post punk disco, eastern rhythms and more. Luke and we hosted The Back Room venue at Glastonbury Festival and Tutti Frutti Festival and play regularly at a number of venues, festivals and clubs and host a monthly radio show on Unify Radio.

I’m a resident for Bristol night Empathy with my good mate Stuart Wilkinson which has been running for over 20 years and I’ve played alongside Laurent Garnier; Bushwacka, Danny Howells and Jody Wisternoff in post couple of years.  

i joined up (through a meeting behind the decks) with Cardiff based Newcitysound Recordings and have been a resident with them for nearly 20 years, they are my good friends and released my first track on the label in 2018.

I have a monthly deep house radio show on Saturo Sounds which started in late 2022 - www.saturosounds.com and have bookings for 2023 confirmed for The Prog Lab with Guy J in March 23 and more to be announced.
