Thanks! It's an omnichord, various chimes and mallets and some audio taken from a movie - I usually sample vinyl but this was one where i didn't.. I do bounce to old tape a lot as well though (hence the vintage feel)... thanks!

One of New Zealand’s longest-running house music brands, Electric Orange started almost 20 years ago as a free party for the beamers, dreamers and schemers of the Auckland scene.
What they dreamed up next were Sunday afternoon sessions, Saturday night shindigs and - finally - a record label with a growing reputation for deep and driving underground grooves.
It’s the natural place for Mono/Loco - one of the many aliases of label co-founder and resident DJ Chris Reed - to release his tribute to all those who put Electric Orange on the musical map, particularly founder Andy Vann.
The Saturday Night Mix is custom-built for smoky basement action, powered by rolling percussion, propulsive rhodes and a hypnotic single-note bass riff complemented by a syncopated acid line. Squelchy, filtered stabs and strings add further layers of warmth in the second half.
But it’s the vocal that brings everything together, conveying emotion, meaning and soul in two superbly deployed lines.
The Sunday Afternoon Mix is a wobbly disco-tinged treat - proper tablet tackle if that’s the kind of things that floats your boat.
Built around an ascending old-school bassline and expertly filtered loops it’s both of its time and redolent of the late 90s US house sound that remains one of the Mono/Loco touchstones.

Greek synthesist Bakis Sirros who records under the name of Parallel Worlds has become a familiar name to followers of the DiN label. His debut release was “Obsessive Surrealism” (DiN26) back in 2007 and since then he has released two further solo albums, “Shade” (DiN32) and “Plector” (DiN76), as well as several collaborative albums with different artists including DiN label boss Ian Boddy & Node guru Dave Bessell.

This fourth sonic journey from Sirros on the DiN imprint sees him focusing in on his modular synthesiser systems, especially the Eurorack format with some able support from Buchla. These massive constructed patches live and breath like a crepuscular organism waking from its slumber. Indeed “Fragmented” is bookended by two wonderfully deep, textural tracks appropriately titled “Dawning” and “Sunset”. With the exception of the organ-like drone soundscape of “Time Flow” the remaining seven tracks encapsulate everything we have come to expect from this unique artist, namely dark, menacing bass lines overlaid with glitchy percussive patterns and beguiling, floating melody lines. It has certainly be noted before, but is worth reiterating, that there is a certain John Carpenter like soundtrack quality to the music of Sirros. Seemingly simplistic they shroud a wealth of detail and beauty that is revealed over repeated listening.

Lovers of Electronica, Dark Techno, Downtempo & IDM will find much to admire in “Fragmented” and this new album once again showcases the unique talent of this highly individual musician.

“It was so interesting to revisit these songs. I tried to pull all the bangers from my early days. Songs that had an indelible impact on my psyche and shaped my songwriting voice. From the gospel my father played around the house, to the Detroit radio station 105.9 where I obsessively taped the top 5 hip hop and R&B songs, to the punk rock that set me free, to the country music where I made my home.”
