After attending Esoteric last year and laying down some tunes on the Snake Pit stage, I couldn't wait to get back to the magical dusty dance floor. It's such an incredible festival with a killer vibe and mindblowing decor and visuals. 

I played alongside a stacked lineup of local legends on the thumping Bush Techno Stage on the Saturday night. Loads of chunky proggy rolling techno shenanigans plus a bootleg I made specifically to open this set.

Live Stream Set - Beats Of Isolation 3 Day Virtual Festival

Exploring uncharted territories of techno, Brazilian sound explorer Gabriel Moraes approaches his expeditions in a noticeably unique way. Sitting restlessly between the heated Berlin style, progressive and a good measure of rave, the tone is catching on, eyes widen and ears prick when the robust sound rumbles through.

Gabriel’s most impressive feat to date is “Die Hölle”. Released through Ukrainian imprint Dear Deer Records, the impressions left on the global scene were phenomenal. Played and praised by Eric Prydz, Solomun, ANNA, D-nox, Victor Ruiz, Coyu and many more of the world’s most influential artists, it became clear that people were recognizing this soaring act, with Eric Prydz vocalizing his support for Die Hölle and Gabriel in a radio interview.

A keen collaborator, Gabriel’s recent single on Nin92wo was developed in cahoots with vocalist Haptic and producer Rafael Cerato. 2018 has seen remixes of Die Hölle by Dusty Kid, Citizen Kain, Niko Schwind and Boy Next Door, with previous years involving remixers KALIL, Jiggler and Victor Enzo. Gabriel wearing the shoes of a remixer himself has put his touch on productions by artists such as KALIL, Taya, Trockensaft, Vitor Munhoz, Rocksted, with his remix of Ark-E-Tech & Käse Kochen’s “We Wombats” on Bassic Records globally premiered by Victor Ruiz at ADE 2017.

Gabriel’s releases are exhibited by a strong list of exceptional labels from all over the world; Dear Deer (Ukraine), Glasgow Underground (London), Click (Netherlands), Fresco (Spain), Bassic (Australia), Natura Viva (Italy), Baroque (UK), Recovery Collective (Australia), KDB (Berlin), Frucht (Berlin), Nin92wo (Brazil) amongst many others.

Now calling home Melbourne, Australia, Gabriel has planted his feet firmly in the renowned festival and club scene, with headline slots at Subsonic, Dragon Dreaming, Elements, Bohemian Beatfreaks, Church of Techno, My Aeon, Capulet, Circus, New Guernica and more.

Having been heavily involved with the thriving Melbourne techno scene for many years, it took a while for this self confessed music addict turned vinyl junkie to find his calling behind the decks. Influenced by a solid foundation of techno, a love of all things melodic and a passion for outdoor bush festivals and psychedelia, Simon’s fascination with a wide array of sounds has helped spawn a deep understanding of the music and scene which he loves. Through focusing his passion for raw underground sounds on his DJ sets, Simon Murphy has spent the better part of the last decade turning more than a few heads playing an eclectic blend of musical madness from his favourite producers from across the globe. 

Delving into a forever growing collection of tunes, Simon Murphy does not restrict himself to any one sound, spinning anything from electronica to deep house & tech house, techno & progressive to the harder edged sounds best enjoyed on a dusty dancefloor and everything in between.
