We also talk about the parallels with other suspense series like 'Black Mirror' and 'The Twilight Zone'. Finally Simon let's slip that he has indeed seen the Barbie movie but assures his co-hosts it was under duress.

Ep. 10 The Help

Simon's old friend Dylan Gable joins the podcast to watch the 1998 Robin Williams' drama 'What Dreams May Come'. We discuss Dylan's contributions as an actor to the local theatre group 'Rock Island Players', the nature of death and the afterlife and Dylan takes a long digression to tell us the plot of the animated film 'Antz'. Also Mariah tells us which computer game she's playing this week and we attempt to get endorsements from Samsung, Steam and Newport Electric. We cover our second animated film 'Waking Life'. We attempt to hold on through a roller coaster ride of philosophical and spiritual monologues. We sort out the profound, the less profound and the incomprehensible. A cameo by Alex Jones leads to a brief discussion on frog science plus lucid dreaming, the holy moment and what is language actually good for?

Ep. 12 Waking Life

We're goin' down to the Crossroads with Ralph Macchio (Karate Kid). We discuss blues music, the 27 Club, Karate Kid and the late great guitarist Robert Leroy Johnson. Then Simon takes a long, long digression to explain why every Tom Cruise movie should have starred Macchio. Finally the podcast itself comes to a crossroads when Mariah gets tired and hungry. Ep. 14 The Hobbit (1977)

We're spending the holidays in Middle-Earth. Simon explains who Beren and Luthien is, Michael reminds us of the illustrious career of John Hurt (Hellboy's dad, The Chancellor from "V for Vendetta") and Mariah complains about all the He-Man style haircuts. Plus why does this movie end in middle? What does Creedence Clearwater Revival have to do with anything? And what exactly is the nature of Frodo and Galadriel's relationship? Ep. 15 The Lord of the Rings (1978)

We have returned and we're "the furthest away from home we've ever been." Join us as we inch closer to Mount Doom. We discuss the actors in the Fellowship and the unique camaraderie that existed on the set of these films, Simon keeps a running tally of the differences from the book (including Tom Bombadil) and we try to figure out who the hell that moth is that save Gandalf from Isengard. Ep. 16 The Fellowship of the Ring (2001) Part 1

We begin part 2 by briefly addressing our long absence. Then we dive right into the second half of Fellowship. We discuss the Howard Shore soundtrack, Balrogs and make way too many Dungeons & Dragons references. Plus Sean Bean's stance on playing dead people, Mariah explains why Pippin killed Gandalf and what did Gimli do with Galadriel's hair? And of course more New Zealand accents and Tom Bombadil talk.

Ep. 17 The Fellowship of the Ring (2001) Part 2

Today we're taking a break from Lord of the Rings with Hayao Miyazaki's 'Princess Mononoke'. Simon digs through some Japanese history, Mariah gives us a crash course in voice actors and Michael tells us about the worst movie ever made. Then we move on to discuss morality, the origins of gunpowder and 'Pulp Fiction's status as a Disney movie.

After a Neverending break from the podcast we return to tackle 'The Neverending Story'. We debate what the saddest scene of the movie is then discuss just how necessary all of that synthesizer was in the soundtrack. Mariah explains how practical effects from the eighties worked and everyone agrees that Falkor is more off-putting than they remembered. Then we engage in a quick discussion of both sequels and the new reboot movies, we take a dive into the script writing process and ask: why did the book store owner just leave that book sitting there anyway?
