Circus Recordings Sessions: #011 Jansons

Here's the mix I did for the Defected Unsung Hero's competition in March 2022, recorded on the 6th March. The comp was aimed at the warm up DJ and with it being Defected I went for a house 101 warm up set that builds throughout the hour, whilst also showing who I am musically. 

With 3800 entrees from talented DJs all over the world I made it through to the final 100. Unfortunately I didn't get any further, but to be honest, I didn't really expect to get as far as I did. Whilst I believe I have the talent, the reality is talent alone isn't enough for the Defected machine, and a 40 yr old bald lad from Chorley isn't the most marketable person on the list. 

Massive congrats to everyone that entered and regardless if you made it through or not. Never try to be good, good is subjective, just do you and let that be enough! 

Track list is below consisting of some old, some new, familiar but not obvious, b sides, dubs, crate digging rather than Beatport top ten, building in energy, enough to hold a room but not over cook it! 

I've tried to share a varied selection of tracks that show who I am musically, mixed live with the odd imperfection as it should be. 

I've been perfecting the art of warm up DJ over almost 20 years so this is me in my element!

I can’t even describe what it means to have been invited to do the essential mix but I’ll try , the essential mix is arguably the most iconic electronic music show in the world I have been listening for well over 20 years myself , I would tune in on Saturday night and I would dream of the day that I might be invited to do the show. This Saturday that day has come , to be joining the greats like Daft Punk , @kerrichandler @masters_at_work_official and too many more to mention that I have admired for decades is one of those milestones that is so meaningful that it’s hard to find the right words.
I’m writing this sat on a beach in Thailand and my heart is full of gratitude thanks to everyone that has been on this journey with me I love and appreciate you all.

About a year ago I launched my label IPSO. First release was a collab with Michael Mayer. We made Dogma 1 and 2, and the tracks have been in heavy rotation ever since. I remember a magical morning at Panorama Bar where we played Dogma 1. It was one of those moments we all live for, where everything fell in place. Magical.

This summer IPSO 002 is released and this time it's a collab with none other than Tiga. We spent a couple of great days in my Copenhagen Studio, and I'm really proud of what we came up with.

Developing a love for house music early on, Foley was known at a young age for his Saturday night residency consisting of long vinyl sets and creative mixing with samplers, effects and acapellas. Fast forward 20 years and having DJ’d all over the UK, Foley has an ear for what works on the dancefloor and what makes a good record!

Growing up in the Manchester and Liverpool club scene of Sankey's Red Light and Tribal Sessions parties, Bugged Out at Cream and the early Circus parties, musical influences were shaped with a mix of underground and Chicago house, both featuring heavily in Foley's sets today. 

After turning his hand to production Foley hit the jackpot when his track 'Take Me There' was picked up by the mighty Toolroom Records and released as part of the 'Leaders of the New School' album spotlighting Foley as an artist to watch out for in 2023.

Foley’s productions have been played on BBC Radio 1, BBC Introducing Manchester, Kiss FM, and received DJ support from some of the industry's biggest names, Joseph Capriati, Nic Fanciulli, Mark Knight, Riva Starr, Sam Divine, Roger Sanchez, Blond:ish and James Hype, to name a few.

2023 saw the launch of his own imprint Afterclub Records as the latest musical venture of this talented DJ / Producer from the Northwest of England.
