SHANTI, is an acoustic Guitar duo with Simon and Neisha who met in 2017 to form a strong, harmonious, melodic, colourful and rhythmical style, that has “The Dance” and “Storytelling” at its root construction. Touching on melodic waltzes, rumbas, rhythmic flamenco, Latin American folk, sounds of European music, their sound is tonally rich, resonant and uplifting.
Simon was raised listening to his Fathers guitar playing and record collection, both bought back from Peru in the 1960’s. The vinyl consisted of early recordings of fiestas and known artists of the day, such as Carlos Montoya, Ramon Montoya, Los Paraguayos and Los Morochucos, and indigenous music of the Americas.
Travelling in his early years to Spain and southern France he picked up techniques and music from gypsy guitarists. Then later on global music, old and new, became of the greatest interest.
Neisha was born in West Cork and spent her early years around the sight and sounds of the traditional circuit. There were many sessions at the family home. Her Fathers love for the Craic and the music, meant that she encountered, as a child, great musicians such as Seamus Creagh, Noel Redding and Christy Moore, to name a few.
Having a Jamaican/Spanish mother who loved flamenco and reggae, she experienced a rhythmically fused musical background.
The Duo now based in West cork with a tendency to wander! living an old school, low tech lifestyle, they can be found on many a street corner, as well as Markets, weddings, local venues, World Culture Festivals and other events.
