British-born Lee Coombs has been involved in the music industry since 1989, when he got his start at acid house parties in London and Cambridge. He went on to run several of his own labels including the legendary Thrust Recordings and collaborate with some of the most respected artists and producers in the world, combining breaks, house, electro, techno, and acid to create groundbreaking mixes in his own signature style. Coombs is a talented and innovative fan-favorite around the world, whether he’s releasing music through his own Thrust label or as part of the Lot49 team, or mesmerizing massive audiences filling dance floors from Australia to Burning Man. 2014 has been a busy year for Coombs! The massive single ‘Lilly in the Sky’ remained up the top of the Beatport charts for many months and has gone on to be one of the biggest selling Breaks tracks of 2014. This is the beginning of a new series of mixes and live events I’m calling CHPTR – a space for storytelling through sound.

Each mix will explore a different emotional arc, unfolding like a narrative across genres, tempos, and textures. Some will be recorded live in the studio, others captured live at CHPTR events. They’re connected by a shared intention: to take you on a journey.

Each set is crafted to unfold like a narrative – rich in texture, emotional depth, and movement. Not just a collection of tunes, but a journey with intention behind every transition, shift, and silence.

CHPTR 001 is, in many ways, a psychedelic selection – not in the hippy sense, but in how it gently alters perception over time. It starts slow, ambient, and introspective, gradually evolving through hypnotic grooves, off-kilter house, breakbeats, and late-night techno. It’s cinematic, immersive, and designed to be experienced as a whole.

Featuring music by Mark Barrott, Jose Solano, Dizharmonia, LTJ, Josh Wink (Adana Twins Remix – Simon’s VIP Edit), Left/Right, BRONSON, and unreleased edits and reconstructions of my own.

I started making this mix series 11 years ago to celebrate my birthday and DJ anniversary.  After a short break, I am pleased to bring the tradition back to life with Twenty-Two, celebrating my 50th birthday and 22 years of DJing. I usually set a lot of rules for programming these studio mixes but I let that all go for this mix and just chose what moved me. I hope it moves you too! I found the album cover quite fitting, which was taken at my 40th at the first ShOOnanigans 10 years ago! 

I am excited to celebrate my 50th at Public Works SF on Sat 7/19! We have one of my favorite producers, Aylen, headlining along with special guests and my long-time friends Dulce Vita (Opulent Temple), Haute Mess (Brass Tax), and Nugz (Dusty Rhino). Hello all! Dancing Mandy and I are pleased to finally release our live recording of our tag team set at unSCruz 2025, Saturday night on the Luna Stage! Since we were slotted to play the closing set we decided to go ALL OUT and bang it out with some odes to the late night after hours that a lot of us grew up in.
