South Africa, a country that birthed original cultures that flowered and survived centuries of colonialism and oppression, has been in the grips of ongoing gang violence since before the new dispensation that’s still claiming countless lives amongst the youth. Having observed the corrosion of the Cape Flats’ social fabric, Jitsvinger felt inspired to write Elke Naweek Nogge Funeral and to release it on the eve of this year’s election day, 29th May featuring the likes of Gboy, Yes Masekin. 

Every day our social media platforms are flooded with posts about local residents crying out for safer communities and social activists taking the law into their own hands to stop the killings because civil servants is dragging their feet to solve this pending issue that’s also connected to drugs trafficking, high school drop-outs, mental health issues, lack of identity and parenthood to name a few. So what’s the artist’s responsibility? To reflect the times and to hold up the mirror. 

Elke Naweek Nogge Funeral (E.N.N.F) strikes at the heart of the matter by shedding light on a festering wound through hard-hitting lyrics and a catchy hook on top of a hypnotic composition  by Ravensmead’s Bangla Beats with soulful ad libs and harmonies provided by Lady G.

“This song is a call to action to reinvestment into our future which is the youth and our people’s struggle towards liberation on election day so that our government, with its legacy of thirty years of democracy, revisit their policies for safer communities as we’re losing a child to gang violence every single day.”
