This is the recording of my closing set at FOLD, London, on April 14th, 2023. I'd put together the lineup for Transmissions and DJed after Shackleton, CCL and mi-el, and had a really special time playing in a zone I’ve been hugely enjoying this year – fast, headsy, frenetic, tunnelling, kind of psychedelic (but not like explicitly psy), twisting and turning in different directions, all over the place genre-wise but tightly bound in a specific mood and propulsive energy.

Decided to re-record a few transitions on this one and tidy it up a little – it’s more editing than I’d usually do but I wanted to release the best mix I could which would exemplify where my head's been at this year. :)

Neel is also a long time col­lab­o­ra­tor with Dona­to Dozzy, start­ing off with them per­form­ing and record­ing as Voic­es From The Lake, evolving into them co-run­ning the legendary Spazio Disponi­bile label.

Now in its 200th instalment, this Podcast has given voice to a diverse offering of global talents across the musical spectrum, from the democratic rhythms of zeitgeist appropriate techno and house through to more avant-garde synthwork.

This next guest has cast a large shadow over the technosphere, so large in fact, that no introduction could fully encompass the breadth of his achievements. But in brief: Ben Klock is a titan whose formative years were spent playing marathon mixes to the crowds at Berlin’s (then recently opened) Berghain. Off the back of his endurance sets and the club’s success he became a household name whose influence grew to be felt across the world, with a body of work that includes appearances at an exhaustive list of clubs and festivals, a number of hot releases on Ostgut Ton and an equally respected self-run label (Klockworks) to boot. On this second imprint, his own productions have repeatedly seen the light of day, alongside those from the likes of DVS1, Sterac, Stef Mendesidis and younger talents like Temudo and Vil & Cravo. The sound, ubiquitous as it is, will be familiar to anyone involved in the world of electronic music and there’s good reason for that: Klock’s deep and percussive work and ability to pull from a wide range of influences have earmarked him as a unique agent for the techno cause. Few artists can match the influence that Enrique Mena, AKA Svreca, and his label Semantica have had on contemporary techno. With over 20 years in the DJ booth, 200-plus releases on the label and some acclaimed original productions and remixes, Svreca has spearheaded techno’s second generation, helping maintain Madrid as an international hub for deep and driving sounds. 

As a DJ, Svreca draws from a wide sonic palette that includes noise, dub, avant-garde electronics, electro and, of course, techno. First, it was luminaries like Angel Molina and Oscar Mulero that inspired him; since then he has made it his mission to survey the scene and connect with its most original artists. He funnels these influences into a powerful techno sound for body and mind: immersive, textural and rhythmically complex. Whether in an open-air festival setting or a blistering, pitch-back basement, Svreca’s sets—always delivered with technical precision—are a psychedelic, physical experience. 

His sets are also inextricably linked to Semantica. It’s a two way relationship: the label has become a consistently excellent breeding ground for new talent, as well as home to some of techno’s finest artists. Equally, Svreca draws inspiration from shared moments on a dance floor to fuel the label’s creative direction. From its austere aesthetic (designed by Mena himself) to its boundless exploration of new formats, Semantica encapsulates the heady spirit of experimental techno. 

Across all Svreca's means of expression, one thing is a constant: the music comes first. Less talking, more doing. It’s a formula he has stood by, and delivered the quality of music needed to back it up.
