Bonn return to Polycarp Records this December with more of their unique twist on electronica, house and techno with the ‘XIIX’ EP.
Hamburg, Germany’s duo Simon Ferdinand and Basch better known under their Bonn guise have individually and together been delivering soul-infused electronic music over the past decade, predominantly via their own Polycarp Records. Here the pair return once again with a new three-track, once again showcasing the depth and dynamism of their production prowess.
Leading the EP is ‘Son Air’, a tripped out journey traversing through glitchy broken percussion, spoken word vocals, dreamy synth chimes and elongated subs before the latter half of the compositions works in a heavy breakbeat drum workout and rave stab sequence.
‘Phase 2 Face’ then showcases the duo’s deeper side, fusing bumpy toms, sturdy kicks and shuffled hats with ethereal textures, boomy low end tones and airy synth chimes. The aptly titled ‘Tension’ then rounds out the release, a subtly blooming, cinematic groove fuelled by an intricate rhythm section, weighty subs, choppy chords and vacillating atmospherics throughout.

Info: Basch offers up his ‘Parallax VHS Memories’ EP via Polycarp Records this January, comprising four original cuts from the German native.

Jan Frederic is a DJ, producer and graphic designer coming out of the northern hub of Hamburg, Germany. Producing material under the alias Basch, Jean Crémant under which he dropped an EP on Johannes Albert’s Frank Music, and as one half of Bonn alongside Polycarp’s own Simon Ferdinand. Here though he’s flying solo as Basch with a fresh four-tracker.

‘Delayed Trains’ leads and lays down hazy, dubbed out atmospherics, elongated bass tones, warbling synth lines and reverberated percussion, all subtly unfurling throughout its six minute duration. ‘Error Tape’ is up next, embracing a more experimental feel with clattering saturated drums, hypnotic synth chimes and murky bass hits.

Info: Simon Ferdinand returns to his own Polycarp Records this February with the ‘Unsigned’ EP, a four-track project of unnamed cuts designed to let the music do the talking. Since 2016 the Simon Ferdinand helmed Polycarp Records has been slowly unveiling material which meanders through genres but keeping a raw, underground aesthetic at its core.
'A1’ opens with haunting synth tones, gritty bass stabs and fluttering wooden percussion before the ‘A2’ ups the energy levels with weighty 808 drums, snaking resonant synth licks and bright leads all dynamically evolving throughout. ‘A3’ then turns things up a notch further with twitchy metallic synth, heavily saturated drums, snappy snare drums and airy atmospherics and intricately delayed synth melodies. ‘A4’ then concludes the EP, stripping things back to a more raw, reduced state as smooth pads, fluttering synths and electronic bleeps ebb and flow amongst a crisp, tight drum groove.

I often let them run together for extended periods, blending them in a way that creates something new – not quite a remix, not exactly an edit, but something in between. Basch is a Hamburg based DJ, producer, and core part of the Polycarp Records roster, over the years he’s carved out a reputation for deep, driving sounds that bridge the worlds of house, techno, ambient and experimental. As one half of the duo Bonn, alongside Simon Ferdinand, he’s delivered a series of acclaimed releases, blending atmospheric textures with raw, club- focused rhythms. His solo work as Basch and Jean-Crémant for Johannes Albert’s Frank Music has also garnered attention from media and DJ’s alike. His growing catalogue that reflects both innovation and versatility has earned him recognition across Europe’s underground and established his standing as a dynamic force within contemporary electronic music.
POLYCARP RECORDS : ‘’With Forever Jan Pt. 1, Hamburg / Berlin-based producer Basch opens the vault on two decades of music-making, bringing together six tracks written and recorded between 2005 and 2025. The material comes from a personal “lost and found” of nearly 50 sketches — fragments rediscovered on old hard drives, MP3s from long-gone sessions, and live recordings from makeshift setups. Each track carries its own history: a piece started on a cracked Reason 3 during a flight from Oslo; an early Hamburg live set held together by a synth demo that crashed every five minutes; a song revived from nothing but a low-bitrate MP3; and a 2005 video edit faithfully recreated, glitches and all. For this release, some arrangements were rebuilt, drums replayed on an 808, and soft synths replaced by analog gear. Mastering by Stefan Eichinger aka Lopazz ties the years together into a single, coherent listen — less a traditional album, more a snapshot scrapbook of 20 years in sound. Compiled by Simon Ferdinand. The release also comes as a strictly limited cassette edition, each tape individually hand-stamped and available only in small numbers. Those who want to secure a copy should be quick, the cassettes are exclusively available via the Polycarp Records Bandcamp Store.'’

PREMIERE : Basch - Leaving Oslo City Centre (Polycarp Records)

The DJ and producer based in Hamburg St. Pauli has already made a name for himself: with some deep sounds between house and techno, he has already released his music on various labels.  Since 2016 he has been running his own label POLYCARP RECORDS. Here he wants to create a base to release his own tracks and works with friends and artists who match his idea or share his vision of contemporary dance music.
