With his creative percussions, soulful melodies and deep atmospheres, he has created music that is inspired by his roots but also goes beyond any existing genre. Our next urban cosmic-cast was mixed by an artist who needs no introduction. 

Mimi Love has played herself into the hearts of countless people all over the globe with her signature sound and unforgettable gigs. Her sets are diverse and distinct, and have been known to move people’s hearts and feet in equal measure wherever she plays.
Although she can often be found discovering unknown territories, Berlin is the place where she loves to take off and land. As a member of the infamous Bachstelzen crew and resident DJ at Katerblau, she is deeply rooted in the German capital, where she has been playing many different roles in “this theatre called underground” for the past 10 years.

Her heartwarming style encompasses both slow and fast vibes, spanning a mixture of electronica-ethno, soft rock - downtempo hiphop all the way to what she calls pop-techno. This podcast is peek into her colourful collection, a mix that showcases the different kinds of music she has collected over the past months. It shows us a side of Mimi Love that we don’t always get to see in clubs - one that we’ve very happy to be able to experience for ourselves with her specially curated mix for Urban Cosmonaut Radio. This was a live jam accompanied by the incredibly talented Suyana (@veerle-kumpen) performed for the beautiful people at Heart Culture Festival in Austria. None of this music was pre-arranged, I had groups of clips and created the arrangements out of those clips on the fly in response to the energy of the moment. The vibe was incredibly special, people really tuned in and offered us the opportunity to dive deep into experimentation and to let things flow effortlessly from the heart. These loops are parts of tracks I have also arranged and released.

As we promised earlier....... Our next story echoes over from San Francisco.
Hilary Mertaugh offers us a sensitive journey, reminding us, that self love and appreciation is so important to be able to share the love with others!

The initial inspiration for this mix came when I watched a crazy documentary called Wild Wild Country about the events that took place on an intentional community created for the followers of the guru Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh, later called Osho.  The documentary left me with a lot to thing about, which got me interested in learning more about Osho’s teaching.  Prior to this I had only been exposed to his teachings via the Osho Zen tarot deck.  When I stumbled upon his talk that I included in the intro to this podcast, what he said really resonated with me and the period of life I’ve been in recently.  For me, mixing music is a very beautiful and meditative way of loving and taking care of myself and and the mixes I share are the indeed the treasures that I unearth when I get this chance to, as Osho would say, be selfish.   So I created a downtempo mix with a slightly introspective or dreamy vibe that hopefully helps transports the listener on a journey within to spend more quality time with themselves.

A Slow Welcome to the Summer

Perfectly in tune with the summer season upon us, Islandman presents a refreshing sound from the shores of the Black Sea with this splendid sunny mix. Originally from Turkey, this brilliant producer started out at a young age and made his way in music by playing a traditional long-necked lute known as a saz. It’s thanks to this early relationship with music that Islandman developed the technique and feeling needed to handle farfetched rhythms, sounds and chants inspired by the flowering cultures of the Mediterranean Basin and beyond to blend them with mastery in his tracks and mixes. This eclecticism and understanding of music has helped him put together a wide range of melodies and musical styles which extend from enchanting edits of traditional Bulgarian sounds to smooth balearic disco. His mix is exciting and mesmerising, catching the mind in a gentle twine of melodies and rhythms. His perfect balance of percussions and electronic beats shakes and ripples throughout the track, and lifts you with ecstatic vibes. The mix goes on in a beautifully arranged journey set by the pace of your own inner dance, as if the concept of time ceases to exist and it’s just you and the music. This is a live recording of one of my favorite sets from the SunSet Cacao Dance's I played this season in Guatemala at Eagles Nest. The journey starts with a cacao ceremony and then begins with slower, spacious music. The energy builds slowly through the mix and peaks followed by a cool down towards the end as the energy comes back down. These sorts of sets are some of my favorites to play. This set also contains some of my unreleased tunes.

Mose - SunSet Cacao Dance Guatemala

Somebody would trivially call this music “neofolk”, but that’s not the case of Jin Yerei, who instead prefers to call it “neurofolk”. This is the name which he likes to use to describe the nature of his sound. A mental combination of spacy effects and traditional motifs from his homeland Argentina bouncing on a pleasant lilting beat. This humble musician gifted of uncommon sensibility and skill is not accustomed to release podcasts or mixes, being instead focused on music composition and production. Nevertheless, here he comes with this jewel that he decided to offer to UCR. The artist produced this live set mixing exclusively his own productions, including some unreleased material. This is meant to be a time travel towards a dystopian future dominated by machines. Humans, living like outcasts of that society, would use their ancient music and chants to remind themselves of the good old times, when humans still had control over machines. Such dramatic scenario, so easy to figure and too often recognizable in some aspects of our societies, serves the artist to remind us of the immense power of music to evoke feelings, to revive lost civilizations, to survive the tragedies. Music is the utopia in the dystopia, or as Jin Yerei says: “Music saves the day, always!”. We at UCR couldn’t agree more and invite our listeners to live their own utopia while enjoying this wonderful mix!

The calendar year is getting to an end and many tend to look back at the joys and successes, but also at the false steps. No better time than this to present a cosmonautic experience offered to us by the one and only Pacaya. His beautiful creations as painter, illustrator, and graphic designer have been delighting us for long time, and now we have the rare opportunity to appreciate his aesthetic also through sound. This beloved friend of ours embodies the concept of the multisensorial artist displaying here an exquisite selection of world music. The sound is the fourth dimension of his visual art. Pacaya explained that each of his artistic creations can be experienced in a deeper way when accompanied by the sound which nourished his mind, and which drove his hand during the making. The sound, somehow, makes the colours more vivid and complement the creation with further details. The inclusion of the sound wide opens the door which the visual art unlocks. That’s the doors to the intimate and emotional world of the artist, a world which Pacaya has been shaping with the physical and metaphysical experiences that he has collected through space and time. Crossing that doorstep gives the chance to make a digression from our respective “here and now” to transcend towards an inner dimension where we can relive our joys and forget our troubles, if we like, or to face the latter with calm and serenity. In that dimension we have the chance to enjoy our time, but also to learn from our false steps in a constructive and peaceful manner. The secret to do this is simple: just relax and feel.

Alma ∞ Omega is the co-founder of the Berlin-based dance-gathering @Lucid and has been passionately opening portals of magic with music-dance-community since she started Djing in 2004. Alma weaves golden strands of consciousness-meets-playfulness, creating alchemical spaces of transformation, celebration, healing and releasing. She is an avid believer in the power of dance and music to elevate & connect the spirit of humanity: allowing us to get back to the basics, our roots, our hips, our hearts, our oneness ...there is no dogma on the dance floor... just a dream within a dream within a dream we dream together: a dream we are learning to navigate as we collectively awake.

Did you know that only humans can hear music? Most animals hear sounds and react to beat, rhythm, volume and pitch, but at an emotional level human music is completely incomprehensible to them. 

Music is what feelings sound like. It is the universal language every person understands. 

Katí is a musical alter ego of Kateryna Tomina - a DJ by day and an event organizer by night based in Kyiv, Ukraine. Music has always been one of the central loves of her life. It started during childhood and later developed into the organization of music and art events in Ukraine - Vibronica Festival series. These days she’s making her first baby steps into the universe of djing. The music she shares is a journey through the miscellaneous worlds of Sound. She shows the diversity of musical beauty by blending dense and subtle bass lines with tropical rhythms, bouncy dub, a pinch of sharp psychedelic sound, folklore vocals and bright melodies of live instruments from all over the world.

" Ahoy! I'm living at the baltic sea coast in germany and since my childhood i'm playing the saxophone in several live combos. But a decade ago I also fell in love with electronic music.
