This album is a departure from my previous style. It's more in a folk, singer-songwriter style, voice and piano with spare instrumentation.

String Quartet No.6: 3 Entropy

Simon Morecroft won the Hadow scholarship to Worcester College, Oxford, where he studied music and composition under Robert Sherlaw Johnson. Early commissions included Eriador, a choral work for the Finchley Music Group, and Contraposita: episodes for string orchestra. While still a student,  his String Quartet No. 3 was premiered at the Holywell Music Rooms by the Allegri Quartet. After University, Simon became a Studio Manager at the BBC, where he continued to work for more than a quarter of a century. Throughout this period, he composed music for many BBC radio programmes, especially radio dramas, including such notable productions as Lady Windermere’s Fan, Richard II, The Duchess of Malfi, and The Lark. Since leaving the BBC in 2006, Simon has concentrated on writing more chamber music, having now completed six string quartets, a sonata for cello and piano, some piano works including Sonata for piano and 12 Study-Preludes, and a choral work Bright Star for the Thames Chamber Choir, which was premiered in 2011. The String Quartet No. 5 was recently performed by the Fitzwilliam String Quartet, and the String Quartet No. 6 received its world premiere in January 2012. In addition to writing concert music and music for radio and TV, Simon has scored the short films One Time Endz, Ten Glorious Seconds, and The Touch. He has also completed an opera, "The Butcher of Rye". His latest project is a foray into a more popular style, with the album "Small Marks in the Dust of Time".
