They know how to party in Brussels - kicking off at gone 11pm the evening went through til nearly 8am with myself and Darren Hurst playing vinyl from 1982 - 1997 era of Manchester & Hacienda. Here are the first 5 hours of the all-vinyl set kicking off with some indie and madchester gems before quickly getting into deep house from the time.

Thanks to Alain and his team at the Bonnefooi for looking after us, you have a fantastic venue and KICK ASS sound system, it was an absolute pleasure to play these records. Enjoy!

My first continuous mix in about 15 years! Absolutely loved it and really got into the groove. The mixing  is RAW - but still worth a listen I reck. I love the whole Phuture / Adonis / Jamie Principle bit. Can't wait to dig out more records and get some more mixes going :)

Loose ends Hanging on a string, produced and mixed by Frankie Knuckles in 1985 - these are the sounds he was producing BEFORE he became the Godfather of House.

Imagination Burnin' Up - Came across this recently on album Body Talk. Unbelievably this was released in 1981! Note the looping piano and the uplifting break - right here British outfit Imagination have produced the blue print for uplifting House.

Fonda Rae - Tuch Me - We all heard this soooo many times in the late eighties and early nineties. A classic of the house music scene. I always thought it sounded a cut above (like real music!) Not until years later did I discover this slice of uplifting house music is actually a disco track from 1984. Sample loops and drum patterns providing inspiration for so many producers to follow.

Kashif - I just gotta have you. Well, here we have a personal favourite from early 80s soul music. Benefiting from the fact my sister (10 years older) was in to cool music, at 11 years old I was getting to hear some real quality! I think its a worthy addition to this list notably because of the sheer quality(!)

Electra feat Tara - Feels Good (Carrots and Beets) This is THE track that sets up possibly THE MOST FAMOUS house track of all time...  The bass loop unmistakably borrowed by Jamie Principle & Frankie Knuckles on the seminal track "Your Love." And it doesn't stop there, this wonderful Italian track also provides the inspiration for the duos other classic house track Waiting on my Angel.  Wonderful record released in 1982!!!!!!

Klein & MBO - Dirty Talk also 1982 - another record produced in Italy and touted by many to be THE 1st house record. There are plenty of reasons to say this - it is surely the 1st record with that unmistakable hollow clicking noise heard on early house tracks like "Robin wants Revenge." The drum pattern half way through the record cuts to a sharp snare break - which feels exactly like many a crisp house track. Towards the end of the track the drum patterns seems to provide the basis for A Guy called Gerald's iconic "Voodoo Ray." 

ESG Moody 1981 - I'm not saying I ever knowingly heard this in the Hacienda. If I did, I don't remember. But, what I am saying is this sounds like the perfect Hacienda track that might have been played on any night in the incredible 89 / 91 era.  Its big spacious (live) drums, heavy duty industrial bass line. It feels cool, it feels industrial. An incredible piece of futuristic music.

A Number of Names - Sharivari (1983) Well here it is? Surely the 1st ever techno record? Released in 1983, heavy repetitive kick drum, pulsating bass, futuristic synth sounds - and a cool dude chatting about wine, cheese, cigarettes and cassettes. Incredible record that has informed so many producers years before time.
