A favourite at our gigs, this is me singing an old Sinatra classic with Matthew Eglinton on piano. Matt came up with the idea of the stripped back arrangement which I really enjoy singing to. It makes a difference from the big band arrangement that usually goes with this classic.

This song was specially composed for my friend James and his new bride Catherine. I wrote the song then got my very talented pianist Matthew Eglinton to work out the arrangement so that I could sing it as a surprise at their Wedding. We recorded the piano part on Matt's iphone, and it came out surprisingly well! The vocals I recorded in my home studio. This is a demo of the song that one day I would like a full jazz orchestra to record.

Seven - David Bowie Cover

After watching the first episode of the comedy series "Our Flag Means Death" I heard the song High On A Rocky Ledge by Moondog. I became kinda obsessed with it, and today I had a go figuring it out on guitar.
If you don't know about Moondog look him up, he was an amazing composer, songwriter, and all round character (he would busk in New York whilst dressed like a Viking). Blind at 16, taught himself multiple instruments, invented instruments, hung out with some of the jazz greats. An incredible story.

Anyway, I hope you like this cover. Just one take, no fx, recorded on my mobile phone.

With James Crane playing 3 amazing acoustic guitar parts (and absolutely nailing this tune!) this was a joy for me to sing on. I love this song and the series. I hope any of you Sons Of Anarchy fans enjoy this cover.

This is my acoustic interpretation of Bowie's last ever song, "Lazarus". It was very emotional to sing, and I still haven't got over the shock of his death. If I go a bit "Bowie" in this it's because I was thinking of the music video, thinking of him, and everything he means to me, so it was kinda hard not to. He remains a constant inspiration to me.

This is my final tribute to Bowie (for now!) Although he didn't write this song, his version is to my mind is the greatest ever, plus it was one of his most impressive vocals. It was never a hit song, but among Bowie fans it's a favourite. I saw him open Glastonbury 2000 with this song and it blew me away.
Anyway, this is my acoustic rendition of it. I perform this live sometimes, but this is the first time I've recorded it. Enjoy!

Here's my home recording of Neil Hannon's "A Lady Of A Certain Age". This is my interpretation of his song, his guitar in the original is far superior, but I hope you enjoy it nonetheless.

This is a demo recorded on my phone. The only effect added is a bit of echo. The Space sound effect at the beginning is just my voice. It was a guide for an electric synth when I record it properly... but I think I might keep it!
This song is inspired by headline in the newspaper about the recently failed ExoMars mission. It was just such a sad headline. It had gone all that way... then nothing.
It's also about well, a break up, so I've done that cliched rock trope where you write about one thing and it's about another.
And of course... it's a tribute to the Starman himself, David Bowie, with a referential nod to Life On Mars.

No Signal From Mars

This is a song I have written the music to for a lyric by Bertolt Brecht from his play "The Good Person Of Szechwan". This particular translation comes from the 1942 text.
I was actually looking for another lyric from that play when I came across this one and it really struck me.
Especially with recent political events, Brecht's lyric seems as fresh as ever. Singing about a day of fairness and justice and humanity that seemingly will never come. The never never day.
So I'd like to dedicate this song to all those that voted in hope of a better day, and I'm sorry instead that the day never came.
