The Rest is about always hoping for the best, but never quite getting it. Even if you get to experience a little joy, the other shoe is always there waiting to drop and rob you of it. Yet we delude ourselves into thinking the good times will roll forever whenever anything is going well.

It's About Time is literally about time itself. It's about the way some people try to fend off death with money and power, but that time gets us all in the end.

Braking is about a woman conflicted about sleeping with someone she met at a bar. She's a bit of a recluse, but decides to give herself to him (begrudgingly). Many people will probably think I spelled "Braking" wrong, but it's actually about her putting on the "Brakes" - even though it doesn't work

Twisting Embers is a song about the thin veil between life and death. It's about passing through the void and becoming part of the other side - whatever you may think that is - possibly nothing.

I Eat metal is a song about growing up with metal and consuming it as if it were food. Especially as we get older and play the stuff we grew up with late at night. Metal is the vehicle by which I taught myself to play guitar. So, this song is more of a tribute than anything.

Lights out is a song about a woman who shot her husband thinking he'd be better off dead than living in the misery he's been stuck in. She eventually goes to prison and loses her freedom because of it. The refrain can mean she has decided to take her own life as well - or just that it's time to go to bed in prison - it's really up to the listener. At first, it's about putting his lights out.

Cardboard Boxes is a song about a homeless woman who never seems to catch a break. She's been downtrodden her whole life, and it doesn't appear anyone can help her.

I Know Why is about choosing family and friends over excess wealth - even though you may be frustrated with your current life and remain jealous of the rich and powerful.

The songs on this debut album were many years in the making. All material was written by me, James Davidson. I am a musician who plays by ear and had many different influences. The album itself would probably be best described as dark, melodic, but also progressive at times. It was mostly recorded in Oregon, WI - but a few songs were recorded in Los Angeles, CA. I am currently putting a band together to try and support the album. Hope you find a few songs you can really connect with. That's the whole point of music for me - connection.
