FALLOUT is finished. But as I step back, I am ambivalent: proud and insecure, excited and apprehensive, like a proud parent watching his baby all grown up, but leaving the nest and protection of home.

Much of my personal sound and background, developed over the years of listening to and creating music, is represented in this album. It also draws widely from not only music, but also the aesthetics of movies, television and literature I love. But FALLOUT is as much a celebration of where my sound is today as it is a recognition that I will leave part of it behind now that this album is in the wild. After putting together this collection, I know I cannot repeat it, and I have to say good bye to part of myself as a producer in pursuit of newness. That is a source of ambivalence- the pride in sharing something I’ve put so much into, and the recognition that by putting these parts of myself out into the world, I have to let them go now. 

But this is the welcomed aftereffect of pouring so much time and energy into this music. I know that by sharing this body of music with you, I am demolishing part of myself as a producer so I can reinvent myself again, and again.

Koven have been heralded as one of the most unique outfits to come through in recent times and their amalgamation of cinematic, emotive drum & bass / dubstep & bass music has caught the attention of worldwide tastemakers. Katie's electricity in the live show sees her striking high notes and crowd-surfing whilst managing to mix through a solid dj set, against the backdrop of Max's expert craftsmanship & wizardry, has proven to be a breath of fresh air for the electronic music scene.

Koven have recently announced their debut LP 'Butterfly Effect', one which will be premiered at next year's Rampage (the world's biggest drum & bass and dubstep festival). Released through the US behemoth & collaborator Monstercat, where the pair have already dropped a number of key releases, it pinpoints another monumental part of their journey.

The first single to be revealed is 'Your Pain', featuring penned words from Katie, foretelling the track's story; Katie's voice is then underpinned by a half-time tempo and each crescendo is underscored by punchy bass pads. It's your first insight into Koven's forthcoming 'Butterfly Effect'LP and it's an exploration of the standards which can be expected. That's the same explosive talent which has made Koven so in demand. With the added platform of Monstercat, this is another step towards their crossover expansion, looking to continue to break boundaries and grow them to the next level.

'Butterfly Effect' has finally dropped; after Koven teasing the LP throughout 2019 and the start of 2020, this has been coined as one of the most pivotal albums of this year. On first listen to its contents, track by track, it's easy to hear why this is. With fourteen selections to choose from, each one offers the sound which has been spearheaded by Koven from the beginning, despite being presented through different tempos and exploring the full versatility of their production. Whilst Max fronts the engineering, Katie has continually stunned crowds with her vocals and explosive DJ performances; it's this combination which has captivated audiences across the world, something that's now been perfectly packaged within their forthcoming album 'Butterfly Effect'.

With several singles acting as stepping stones for the LP's eventual release, there's already been a host of music that fans, both old and new, have been introduced to. Records like 'Yes', 'Followers', 'All for Nothing', 'Shut My Mouth', 'Give You Up', 'Your Pain' and 'Gold' have taken you through the motions of 'Butterfly Effect' with its unbridled diversity. Koven has demonstrated the standards which they've adhered to throughout its process, since its first reveal earlier in 2019.

However, the vast expanse of eye-watering new music highlights that Koven's work rate is second to none. With the cinematic drum & bass flavours of 'Worlds Collide' introducing 'Butterfly Effect', it's a precursor of what's to come, quickly followed by the album's soaring title-track. The James Bond inspired 'Speaking Through Smoke Detectors' takes you through a movie soundtrack soundscape whilst the emotive current of 'For Me' delivers a different twist to their usual bass-heavy undercurrents, alongside the switched up tempo of 'Stars'.

Katie Koven's incredible vocal textures ring through tracks like 'Missing' and you're made aware of her incredible artistry from start to finish. Meanwhile, the sweeping layers of 'Surely You Know', which draws the album to a close, creates a powerful stirring of emotions, encapsulating what it means to deliver music with soul. 'Butterfly Effect' isn't just an album of tracks; it's a journey through the hearts and minds of Koven. Released through Monstercat and premiered at Europe's biggest bass music party, Rampage Festival, Koven are about to debut 'Butterfly Effect' on the world stage, whilst taking you along for the ride.
