Swaiyas In Praise Of The First Mehl:
ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:
ਇਕ ਮਨਿ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਧਿਆਇ ਬਰਦਾਤਾ ॥
Meditate single-mindedly on the Primal Lord God, the Bestower of blessings.
ਸੰਤ ਸਹਾਰੁ ਸਦਾ ਬਿਖਿਆਤਾ ॥
He is the Helper and Support of the Saints, manifest forever.
ਤਾਸੁ ਚਰਨ ਲੇ ਰਿਦੈ ਬਸਾਵਉੁ ॥
Grasp His Feet and enshrine them in your heart.
ਤਉੁ ਪਰਮ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵਉੁ ॥੧॥
Then, let us sing the Glorious Praises of the most exalted Guru Nanak. ||1||
ਗਾਵਉੁ ਗੁਨ ਪਰਮ ਗੁਰੂ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰ ਦੁਰਤ ਨਿਵਾਰਣ ਸਬਦ ਸਰੇ ॥
I sing the Glorious Praises of the most exalted Guru Nanak, the Ocean of peace, the Eradicator of sins, the sacred pool of the Shabad, the Word of God.
ਗਾਵਹਿ ਗੰਭੀਰ ਧੀਰ ਮਤਿ ਸਾਗਰ ਜੋਗੀ ਜੰਗਮ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਧਰੇ ॥
The beings of deep and profound understanding, oceans of wisdom, sing of Him; the Yogis and wandering hermits meditate on Him.
ਗਾਵਹਿ ਇੰਦ੍ਰਾਦਿ ਭਗਤ ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦਿਕ ਆਤਮ ਰਸੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਜਾਣਿਓ ॥
Indra and devotees like Prahlaad, who know the joy of the soul, sing of Him.
ਕਬਿ ਕਲ ਸੁਜਸੁ ਗਾਵਉੁ ਗੁਰ ਨਾਨਕ ਰਾਜੁ ਜੋਗੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਮਾਣਿਓ ॥੨॥
KAL the poet sings the Sublime Praises of Guru Nanak, who enjoys mastery of Raja Yoga, the Yoga of meditation and success. ||2||

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

ਕਹਉ ਕਹਾ ਅਪਨੀ ਅਧਮਾਈ ॥
What can I say about my base nature?

ਉਰਝਿਓ ਕਨਕ ਕਾਮਨੀ ਕੇ ਰਸ ਨਹ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਗਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
I am entangled in the love of gold and women, and I have not sung the Kirtan of God's Praises. ||1||Pause||

ਜਗ ਝੂਠੇ ਕਉ ਸਾਚੁ ਜਾਨਿ ਕੈ ਤਾ ਸਿਉ ਰੁਚ ਉਪਜਾਈ ॥
I judge the false world to be true, and I have fallen in love with it.

ਦੀਨ ਬੰਧ ਸਿਮਰਿਓ ਨਹੀ ਕਬਹੂ ਹੋਤ ਜੁ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਹਾਈ ॥੧॥
I have never contemplated the friend of the poor, who shall be my companion and helper in the end. ||1||

ਮਗਨ ਰਹਿਓ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੈ ਨਿਸ ਦਿਨਿ ਛੁਟੀ ਨ ਮਨ ਕੀ ਕਾਈ ॥
I remain intoxicated by Maya, night and day, and the filth of my mind will not depart.

ਕਹਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਅਬਿ ਨਾਹਿ ਅਨਤ ਗਤਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਸਰਨਾਈ ॥੨॥੧॥੩੧॥
Says Nanak, now, without the Lord's Sanctuary, I cannot find salvation in any other way. ||2||1||31||

ਬਿਲਾਵਲੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
Bilawal 5th Guru,
ਸੁਖ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮੇਰੇ ॥
O my loved Lord, though art the Treasure of bliss.
ਅਗਨਤ ਗੁਣ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇਰੇ ॥
Infinite are Thine excellences, O my Lord Master.
ਮੋਹਿ ਅਨਾਥ ਤੁਮਰੀ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥
I, an orphan, have entered Thine sanctuary.
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਨ ਧਿਆਈ ॥੧॥
O Lord, have mercy on me, that I may meditate on Thy feet.
ਦਇਆ ਕਰਹੁ ਬਸਹੁ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥
My Master, take pity on me and abide Thou within my mind,
ਮੋਹਿ ਨਿਰਗੁਨ ਲੀਜੈ ਲੜਿ ਲਾਇ ॥ ਰਹਾਉੁ ॥
and let me, the meritless one, hold on to Thy skirt. Pause.
ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਚਿਤਿ ਆਵੈ ਤਾ ਕੈਸੀ ਭੀੜ ॥
If I remember the Lord, what calamity, can then befall me?
ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਕ ਨਾਹੀ ਜਮ ਪੀੜ ॥
God's slave suffers not pain caused by Yama.
ਸਰਬ ਦੂਖ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਨਸੇ ॥
All the troubles of him pass away,
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਬਸੈ ॥੨॥
who remembers God, and with whom the Lord ever abides.
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥
The Lord's Name is the support of my soul and body,
ਬਿਸਰਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੋਵਤ ਤਨੁ ਛਾਰੁ ॥
and forgetting the Name the body is reduced to ashes.
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਚਿਤਿ ਆਏ ਪੂਰਨ ਸਭ ਕਾਜ ॥
Contemplating the Lord, all the affairs are adjusted.
ਹਰਿ ਬਿਸਰਤ ਸਭ ਕਾ ਮੁਹਤਾਜ ॥੩॥
Forsaking his Lord, the mortal becomes subservient to all.
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਸੰਗਿ ਲਾਗੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ॥
By enshrining love for the Lord's lotus feet,
ਬਿਸਰਿ ਗਈ ਸਭ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਰੀਤਿ ॥
I am rid of all the evil thoughts and ways.
ਮਨ ਤਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਮੰਤ ॥
Within my mind and body is the Name of the Lord God.
ਨਾਨਕ ਭਗਤਨ ਕੈ ਘਰਿ ਸਦਾ ਅਨੰਦ ॥੪॥੩॥
Nanak, within the home of the Lord's serfs, abides the eternal bliss.

ਕਾਨੜਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ਘਰੁ ੪
Kanra 5th Guru.
ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
There is but One God. By the True Guru's grace, is He obtained.
ਨਾਰਾਇਨ ਨਰਪਤਿ ਨਮਸਕਾਰੈ ॥
He who makes obeisance unto the Primal Being, the Lord of men,
ਐਸੇ ਗੁਰ ਕਉੁ ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਈਐ ਆਪਿ ਮੁਕਤੁ ਮੋਹਿ ਤਾਰੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉੁ ॥
I am a sacrifice, sacrifice unto such a Guru, who himself is emancipated and emancipates me as well. Pause.
ਕਵਨ ਕਵਨ ਕਵਨ ਗੁਨ ਕਹੀਐਂ ਅੰਤੁ ਨਹੀ ਕਛੁ ਪਾਰੈ ॥
O Lord, which of Thine countless and numerous merits should I praise, when there is no limit and end to them.
ਲਾਖ ਲਾਖ ਲਾਖ ਕਈ ਕੋਰੈ ਕੋ ਹੈ ਐਸੋ ਬੀਚਾਰੈ ॥੧॥
Lacs upon lacs and countless millions are the Lords virtues, but rare indeed is any such person who reflects on them.
ਬਿਸਮ ਬਿਸਮ ਬਿਸਮ ਹੀ ਭਈ ਹੈ ਲਾਲ ਗੁਲਾਲ ਰੰਗਾਰੈ ॥
Beholding My Beloved, I am wonder struck, wonder struck, wonder struck and am imbued deep red.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੰਤਨ ਰਸੁ ਆਈ ਹੈ ਜਿਉੁ ਚਾਖਿ ਗੂੰਗਾ ਮੁਸਕਾਰੈ ॥੨॥੧॥੨੦॥
Says Nanak, the saints enjoy the God's elixir, as the dumb smiles tasting the sweets.

Aise Gur Ko Bal Bal Jaiye ~ Simrit Kaur & Sukhmeet Singh

ਬਿਲਾਵਲੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
Bilawal 5th Guru.
ਮੂ ਲਾਲਨ ਸਿਉੁ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਬਨੀ ॥ ਰਹਾਉੁ ॥
I have contracted love with my Beloved. Pause.
ਤੋਰੀ ਨ ਤੂਟੈ ਛੋਰੀ ਨ ਛੂਟੈ ਐਸੀ ਮਾਧੋ ਖਿੰਚ ਤਨੀ ॥੧॥
The Lord of wealth has drawn me with such a string, that by breaking, it breaks not, and by letting it go, it goes not.
ਦਿਨਸੁ ਰੈਨਿ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ਬਸਤੁ ਹੈ ਤੂ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਅਪਨੀ ॥੨॥
Day and night the Lord abides within my mind. My Master shower Thou thine benediction on me.
ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਉੁ ਸਿਆਮ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਕਉੁ ਅਕਥ ਕਥਾ ਜਾ ਕੀ ਬਾਤ ਸੁਨੀ ॥੩॥
I am a sacrifice, a sacrifice unto my black, beauteous Lord, whose ineffable discourse and story have I heard.
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸਨਿ ਦਾਸੁ ਕਹੀਅਤ ਹੈ ਮੋਹਿ ਕਰਹੁ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਅਪੁਨੀ ॥੪॥੨੮॥੧੧੪॥
Slave Nanak is said to be the slave of the Lord's slaves. O my Master, shower Thou Thine benediction on me.

ਆਸਾਵਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੪ ॥
Asawari 4th Guru.
ਮਾਈ ਮੋਰੋ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਰਾਮੁ ਬਤਾਵਹੁ ਰੀ ਮਾਈ ॥
Mother, O my Mother, tell me of my Beloved Lord.
ਹਉੁ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਪਲੁ ਰਹਿ ਨ ਸਕਉੁ ਜੈਸੇ ਕਰਹਲੁ ਬੇਲਿ ਰੀਝਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉੁ ॥
Without God, I cannot live even for a moment and trice for I love Him as the camel does the creeper. Pause.
ਹਮਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਬੈਰਾਗ ਬਿਰਕਤੁ ਭਇਓ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਸਨ ਮੀਤ ਕੈ ਤਾਈ ॥
For the sake of the sight of God, the Friend, my soul has become sad and unattached.
ਜੈਸੇ ਅਲਿ ਕਮਲਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਰਹਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਤੈਸੇ ਮੋਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਰਹਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੧॥
As the black-face-bee cannot live without lotus, so I cannot live without God.
ਰਾਖੁ ਸਰਣਿ ਜਗਦੀਸੁਰ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਮੋਹਿ ਸਰਧਾ ਪੂਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਸਾਈ ॥
Keep me under Thine protection O Beloved Master of the Universe and fulfil my faith, O God the World-Lord.
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਅਨਦੁ ਹੋਤ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਨਿਮਖ ਦਿਖਾਈ ॥੨॥੩੯॥੧੩॥੧੫॥੬੭॥
Slave Nanak's mind is filled with bliss, when he sees God's sight even for an instant.

ਸਭੈ ਘਟ ਰਾਮੁ ਬੋਲੈ ਰਾਮਾ ਬੋਲੈ ॥ 
Within all hearts, the Lord speaks, the Lord speaks. 
ਰਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋ ਬੋਲੈ ਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉੁ ॥ 
Who else speaks, other than the Lord? ||1||Pause|| 
ਏਕਲ ਮਾਟੀ ਕੁੰਜਰ ਚੀਟੀ ਭਾਜਨ ਹੈਂ ਬਹੁ ਨਾਨਾ ਰੇ ॥ 
Out of the same clay, the elephant, the ant, and the many sorts of species are formed. 
ਅਸਥਾਵਰ ਜੰਗਮ ਕੀਟ ਪਤੰਗਮ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਰਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਨਾ ਰੇ ॥੧॥ 
In stationary life forms, moving beings, worms, moths and within each and every heart, the Lord is contained. ||1|| 
ਏਕਲ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਰਾਖੁ ਅਨੰਤਾ ਅਉੁਰ ਤਜਹੁ ਸਭ ਆਸਾ ਰੇ ॥ 
Remember the One, Infinite Lord; abandon all other hopes. 
ਪ੍ਰਣਵੈ ਨਾਮਾ ਭਏ ਨਿਹਕਾਮਾ ਕੋ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਕੋ ਦਾਸਾ ਰੇ ॥੨॥੩॥ 
Naam Dayv prays, I have become dispassionate and detached; who is the Lord and Master, and who is the slave? ||2||3||

ਯਾਰ ਵੇ ਪ੍ਰਿਅ ਹਭੇ ਸਖੀਆ ਮੂ ਕਹੀ ਨ ਜੇਹੀਆ ॥
O intimate friend, my Beloved has all these loving companions; I cannot compare to any of them.
ਯਾਰ ਵੇ ਹਿਕ ਡੂੰ ਹਿਕ ਚਾੜੈ ਹਉੁ ਕਿਸੁ ਚਿਤੇਹੀਆ ॥
O intimate friend, each of them is more beautiful than the others; who could consider me?
ਹਿਕ ਦੂੰ ਹਿਕਿ ਚਾੜੇ ਅਨਿਕ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਨਿਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਭੋਗ ਬਿਲਾਸਾ ॥
Each of them is more beautiful than the others; countless are His lovers, constantly enjoying bliss with Him.
ਤਿਨਾ ਦੇਖਿ ਮਨਿ ਚਾਉੁ ਉੁਠੰਦਾ ਹਉੁ ਕਦਿ ਪਾਈ ਗੁਣਤਾਸਾ ॥
Beholding them, desire wells up in my mind; when will I obtain the Lord, the treasure of virtue?
ਜਿਨੀ ਮੈਡਾ ਲਾਲੁ ਰੀਝਾਇਆ ਹਉੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਆਗੈ ਮਨੁ ਡੇਂਹੀਆ ॥
I dedicate my mind to those who please and attract my Beloved.
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਕਹੈ ਸੁਣਿ ਬਿਨਉੁ ਸੁਹਾਗਣਿ ਮੂ ਦਸਿ ਡਿਖਾ ਪਿਰੁ ਕੇਹੀਆ ॥੨॥
Says Nanak, hear my prayer, O happy soul-brides; tell me, what does my Husband Lord look like? ||2||
