Card 5: Exilar ur ata Ios - Guardian of Water 

The Fifth was the Guardian of Water, Naen Koll was Novelty, presage, new instruction, emotion, superfluity. Flow, time, passing, movement, changing, past, present is future, washing of the soul, easiness, lightness. Letting things go. Becoming one with the essence and simplicity of the flow of water. 

Reality approaches and pass as the current of a river. Cleanses the soul with divine water. Change is needed. Brings health. Protects against the nature of fire. Against impurities of the soul and body. The first of the elements, born from Time –and a shape of it–, was water, followed by fire, that stirs the senses. Naen Koll, the fifth, is the Guardian of Water. Controller of the seas, lakes, rivers, streams and rains that fall over the earth.

How did the meaning of the tarot card inspire the journey of this mix?

I drew a lot of inspiration from the meaning of water and also try to mix Naen Koll  it with an important deity in Mexican mythology "TLALOC"  which is the Mexican god of rain, water, lightning, and fertility  - so, I thought about the storms we pray to happen, the omens that sometimes dwell within them—and I wanted to weave together tracks that carried these “organic” elements. 

There’s also a trippier side to it, a sonic exploration of that altered state you can reach when you truly observe and experience extraordinary ritual moments in water.  It’s a kind of meditation, almost a hallucination, and I wanted to capture that feeling and share it, hoping in some way it connects with listeners ...

Agharo 16 - Vongold (Exilar ur ata Ios - Guardian of Water)

Anyone following this guest mix series will probably know our next guest. He’s been a huge inspiration for Blank Wave, and one of the main reasons this platform exists in the first place.

Luca Venezia aka Curses — the Berlin-based DJ, producer, and label curator — blends New Wave, Post-Punk, Italo-Disco and EBM into dark, romantic club soundscapes that bridge nostalgia and modern energy (like no other). His latest album Another Heaven (2024) showcases his evolving sound, following Incarnadine (2022) and his debut Romantic Fiction (2018).

Together with Skelesys, he brought the duo Silver Tears to life, delivering a guitar-driven mixture of Post-Punk and Dark Wave with haunting melodies and cinematic textures. Curses also curates the brilliant Next Wave Acid Punx compilation series and runs Ombra International, a label dedicated to shadowy dance music from around the globe. His live sets, often featuring bassist Dame Bonnet, add a raw, post-punk edge to the dance floor and you should visit his live show whenever possible. With his monthly radio show Together Alone, Curses continues to navigate the twilight zone between wave and club culture — making him one of the defining voices of this darkly romantic movement.
