PREMIERE – Alex Virgo – The Promise (feat Olugbenga) (Instrumental) (Bordello A Parigi)

Olivier DB's first EP, titled "What U Want?", will be released on June 12th under the Epicure Records label Pavillon.  Olivier dB is a French born DJ & producer based in San Diego. His music draws inspiration from 80’s italo, electro, house & new wave.    Fusing retro melodies with funky driven rhythms that evoke feelings of nostalgia.  Each set is an ever-changing journey through crate-digging, world sounds and eclectic exploration.

This original track is an engaging and dreamy composition, blending deep melancholy with palpable romance. With disco influences, "What U Want?" fits perfectly both in the dynamic atmosphere of clubs and on a romantic drive along the California coast.

The track is accompanied by four remixes from French DJ Prinze, German DJ Paradiso, and Italian DJs La Kena and Eliogold.

PREMIERE: Olivier DB - What U Want [EPICURE]

Two Italians step into the Bordello. Both are armed. Their weapons of choice? The synthesizer sounds of italo, new beat and wave. 

LVCA and Otis have been raised on the sounds of their homeland, adopting its analogue sound while adapting it to their own style. The result is a brooding mix of addictive lines and vocoder fire.

 “Ritmo Electronico” opens with a steel-edged snare driving smeared synths through the city dusk, robotic lyrics menace this sleazy neon-stained scene of cracked mirrorballs and flaring machines. 

Listeners are pulled into the underbelly of A Promise In The Cold Night with the murky “Tanzen”. Alex Vincent’s words are shrouded in glitch, bright burbling bars and a clean clap offering a path of light to help the listener navigate their way. 

The true coldness of the night arrives with the stabbing keys of “Synthesised Emotion”. Through a haze of hi-hats, an electrical smoke of blacks and greys fizz with juddering volts as passions pour through cable and wire. That haze grows thick in the close. 

Through a mist of distortion, a “Sphere Of Light” penetrates. Pin-pricks of percussion are dowsed in aquatic tones before a syrup of static is poured across proceedings, lost vocals ghost in this fog of bending bodies and forms.

Featuring remixes or new versions/mixes of previously released gems, the solid Argentinean label sheds new light on super-hot tracks, either from their very own catalogue or obscure rarities, aiming to give another chance for those who happen to have missed a beat or two amid the plethora of content which comes out every single day. 

For the first volume of the “Extra, Extra” series, Kammeleon remixed “Acid Mantra” by Cosmosolar, Cu Da Curuxa revisited “Super High” by Sylphomatic, Cali Burton reinvented “Zodiaco” by Andre Rech, and Panko (FREEDL051) proudly reissued his “Electra”. The result is a flavourful concoction delivered by some of the most active young members of the so-called Indie Dance/Dark Disco scene. 

Niklas Kammel aka Kammeleon is the mastermind behind the theme we handpicked to premiere. His take on Cosmosolar’s hit “Acid Mantra”, originally released in May 2023, comes wrapped in even more acid – and stamina. In his vision, 132 BPM – instead of 123 – are more suitable for the peak time. Percussive elements and Early Rave synth stabs jump in to spice things up, resulting in a perfect interpretation of an already flawless cut.

The Card

The Guardian of the Sky stands for all the creatures of the air, for the unpredictable winds and ethereal nature. Symbolised by the eclipse, is the night taking over the day,  a metaphor of darkness that brings forth meaning to the light. The guardian above all represents freedom.

Lola Villa

Bogotá born, Buenos Aires bred, Berlin grown and now calling Amsterdam her home. She say her travels have brought her closer to both her Latin American roots and a borderless exploration of global sounds. When playing, Lola invokes landscapes, animals & rituals of her homeland Colombia – a country rich in Amazonian, Andean, Afro and Arab musical legacies. Her electronic sound is for that exact same reason a profound journey of melodies, a playground of rhythms going beyond genres and boundaries.

What was the thinking behind this mix?

Taking inspiration from the idea of Light and Darkness, I wanted to use sounds and rhythms that are closely related to me as an artist but would have a rather odd and experimental twist to it – resulting in a rather dark, deep and unexplored territory for me as a DJ. However, there is a common thread that makes the mix still very mine: the ubiquitous presence of warm vocals, cajones and djembes.

The Card ;

Knowledge, transfixed into symbols from language, shows itself as a the main tool to approach the all surrounding. Knowledge  as determining limit of the (our) world. Everything possible is within its boundaries. Wisdom is amplitude. The more we know, the bigger our language. Achieved wisdom makes us stronger, brightening our path, letting us see reality with more clarity, about the reason of things, it helps us accept evil and choose good instead.

What was the thinking behind this mix?

The inspiration came from the subjective way mankind perceives and  absorbs knowledge , short transitions correlate to the concept of how quickly one can use that knowledge to define an idea or thought .The mix emerged with ones sense of self and mind as it  moves  from the ego into the super ego all the way to the rushing ID (hence the higher tempo) it correlates to the logical mind vs emotional mind as well as the peaceful mind vs the troubled mind and how each alteration can impact our perception of what knowledge we gain, in each situation we face.

The Card

One is the beginning of the self, the start point of existence. One protects the self. The very essence of the spirit is engraved in it, to be guarded and cherish. One, we are to the self, we are bond and from it there isn’t escape. We see the world through the Self. From the self we create a reality. This is the one-self that lives in the pulsating stars and within God, the self that being born out of eternity blooms and then to imperishable returns, till the dust is blown and the fire extinguished.

What was the thinking behind this mix?

This mix is a personal but a courageous saga of a “Hero’s transcendence towards the Super Ego” taking inspiration from two great intellectual minds – Joseph Campbell (The Hero’s Journey) and Freud (The ID, Ego and the Super Ego). The ID (Impulsive/aggressive drives) which operates on the pleasure principle regardless of the consequences is dangerous. The Ego is that part of the ID which has been modified by the direct influence of the external world. Freud made the analogy of the “ID” being a horse while the ego is the rider. Often the ego is weak to hold in check the superior strength of the horse. Here comes the realization that the “HERO” needs the super ego (the ideal and moralistic higher self) to control the ID’s aggressiveness and persuade the ego (the rider) towards the direction of its core: where the ego merges with the super ego to become the one he has always been.

The mix has been segregated into three parts. The first part (ID) is represented by indigenous/tribal samples and personal edits. The first track on this mix is the voice over of “ Carl Jung’s” interview (1949) sampled and a track created by me to point out that the only real danger that exists is man himself (when he gives in to the ID). The second part (Ego) is focused on the experimental sounds and techniques representing the direction towards a uncharted territory in terms of crate digging. The third part (Super ego) represents the direction towards new sounds: the rebirth and merger of the ego with the super ego. The result is a “hybrid set” that is in harmony with all the three components while still mastered by the super ego (the one’s self).

The Card

Elerion-Temperance -  It accompanies the noble man to aid him in his way. It signifies peace in battle and between the interaction of beings. Dims down desperation and waves the will towards the Light. It helps the soul of the Querent to remain in calm. The water that was unsettled quiets down and becomes clear as a mirror.

What was the thinking behind this mix?

There is in each song almost all of them a live component, the melodies are sweet and energetic almost aggressive there are down moments and higher states just like the meaning of the card that leads man to the better state it needs before to see the dark and use positive but tremendous power to make the switch from a state to another, the mix is full with dark positive matter like an energetic wave coming from outer space.

The Card

Enemies represent the necessary opposites. They are the contrast giving light to the contraries. There is no good without evil or light without darkness. There is no war without opponents, without clashing forces. The enemies gives a reason to the spirit, move the will, incite the strive to go from one state to another. They are the obstacles, the teaching. 'Here my foes, wait for me, I shall come to you, I've been waiting.'

What was the thinking behind this mix?

Enemies have appeared in my life in different forms: in an obvious ways contradicting all my personal beliefs and values, or disguised, making it more difficult to identify them. In each case, recognising my enemies always gave me the opportunity and the necessity to take a step back. By doing so it helped me discover a little bit more of who I was (personally and musically) and emphasise on the most important things in my life, in order to distinguish myself from my enemies .

I have put together a selection of darker and mellow tracks in the beginning that, to me, illustrate this process: standing in front of an obstacle and grieving the fact that things are about to change. Then I wanted to express the joy and excitement of going from one state to another with more groovy notes and a more emotional end to express the realisation that if in the end, you give so much importance to your enemies, it’s because you also have a lot in common with them.

About

Born and raised in Zagreb, Croatia, he got his first 7-inch record from his mom by the age of 6. He started to rave and dance from 1998 and professionally been djing the last decade. 

Known for holding the residency of few programs in Croatia (Breaking point, Technology, Cycle and Micro), he made his way into the underground scene in the city. In 2013, he launched his record store named Pitch Vinyl Shop specialized within the underground electronic dance music.

Later on, he moved to Stockholm where he started to play at spots such as F12 Terrassen, Laika, Bastun and Bronx and became resident DJ of “press.esc” open-air raves. 

His musical style and knowledge are wide and big, as is his record collection that never lacks a story to tell. The aim for him is to always set a mood that the groove can follow. There is a lot more to say but let’s finish with his own words: " words are fake only music matters".

The Card
Guardian of Fire - Exilar ur ata Tairan 

Destruction. Symbolized by flames devouring the roots of things.Feeling of the captured and the captive. Embracing the wold within one’s flame. Ageing without ageing. Loss of purity. Innocence lost. Fire consumes and seizes, ages and taints the purity of the living, along with the pain which was born from it. The second was Aerlet in Agharo, Guardian of Fire, who fought Naen Koll with mighty determination and is but the primeval source of pain in the world, without which its opposite wouldn’t exist.

What was the thinking behind this mix?

Fire has the power to destroy or cleanse all that it touches. The essence of fire manifests in our lives beyond its physical expression. The etheric energy of fire permeates to our very centre. The illumination fire brings to the spirit, lights the paths within. Revelations are made that can lead to healing and transformation. Fire teaches us that these changes are a vital force in the evolution of the soul.

The Sinchi label features  a combination of singles and compilation releases. Featuring artists such as Sascha Funke, Curses, Khidja, Anatolian Weapons, Stevie R Parsinos and Tolouse Low Trax to name just a few . All aimed at raising funds for social causes, such as our own Foundation, which focuses on the preservation of indigenous culture & knowledge.
