Who killed JackWasFaster?

Was it the post‑pandemic skyrocketing BPMs and the slow death of soul in club music? The exhausting 90s revival — dredging up even its least glorious moments? Maybe it was the nightlife crowd: more “intense,” with Jäger‑tainted breath, white-powdered noses, and the same recycled small‑talk clichés. Or the current musical climate, obsessed with constant novelty over meaningful transformation. Perhaps it was the mainstreaming of tacky spectacle — DJs dressed as mermaids, horses, or bullfighters — a bargain‑basement sublimation of kitsch.

Or maybe it was suicide. A slow collapse brought on by the inability to find new ways to express oneself in this environment; the blur between conviction and inertia; the endless déjà‑vu; the weariness; the age. Like in Murder on the Orient Express, maybe everyone took a stab.

This posthumous EP gathers the final tracks JackWasFaster worked on, a re‑imagined take on his debut cut Bitter Pill, and a blistering remix from Anatolian Weapons. Maybe they’ll help crack the case. Or maybe one day JackWasFaster will rise from the dead.

Bedouin Sahrawi is a DJ and music collector from Western Sahara currently living in the Canary Islands but born in the Sahrawi refugee camps of Tindouf, Algeria. Moving to Spain opened him up to a new world of western music and he effortlessly braids the music his desert roots with the duende and melancholy of Spanish music.  His GhostlyCast traverses an expanse of genres, skipping and twisting like a whirling wind across open sand and over open ocean.  Stop at any given point in its two hour span, and you could find yourself soaked in Balearic sunshine, lost in the meditative turnings of folk samples, or being shepherded along by hazy, bubbling acid bass lines.  The vast space of the horizon swallows each echoing note as the mix pulls you into the deeper heart of the desert.

GhostlyCast #67: Bedouin Sahrawi - From Western Sahara with Love

After releasing on labels including Correspondant, Have a Killer Time and Clouded Vision Records, Jo Howard aka @BirdofParadiseMusic has decided to launch his own imprint, Sulk Magic, to showcase music from himself and similarly musically aligned artists.

The debut Sulk Magic One see's five cuts of left field dance music, joined together by nothing other than their disregard for tropes or forms.  We were mightily impressed with the full release and enjoyed all the tracks. Obb Globelyn's ' Quarry' and this beauty 'Perception' from the man himself, Bird of Paradise (with KGBK) really stood out, the latter deftly pairing left field techno, with an 80’s sensibility in the vein of Severed Heads. -

Other tracks featured Lithuania's Roe Deers, Al Gobi (Ian Blevins and Phill Moody as previously seen on Culprit and Disco Bloodbath) and Stove.

The record is available exclusively on Junodownload  (see buy link) from the 19/02/2017 and all digit outlets from 05/03/2017.
