In the pivotal period before the end of Apartheid, the fluff of bubblegum was starting to boil over into what later became the tougher township-centric sounds of kwaito. Amidst this volatile and transitional climate a mysterious kid named Eddie Magwaza started making moves in the studio, creating music for a vibrant street dance style that was blowing up in SA, called pantsula. At the time, other groups were also starting to create faster and more instrumental dance music which suited this agile style of dancing, but on this album Magwaza managed to channel the cosmic chant of italo and the sweaty energy of early house music in a unique and peerless way that has captured the ears and feet of DJs and dancers around the world many years later.

Magwaza, who wasn't even 20 when he made this album, had the help of seasoned studio whizzes Lucky Matante & Jan Smit with programming, sequencing and engineering, and their studio mastery really takes flight on the dub version of the title cut which has made the album so desirable in the last few years. Sadly Magwaza was shot and killed shortly after the release of the album and it stands as the last testament to his brilliant vision.

Remastered and pressed on a loud 12" Mashisa is once again available to spread the pantsula spirit to dancing bodies everywhere. Artwork by Jessica Greene.

Edit supremo Adesse Versions (Heist Recordings, Toy Tonics) brings his raw touch and some soulful vibes to New York tastemaker Razor-N-Tape this month with a lethal two track combination in 'Sistem' and 'Bumpin' NYC'. The former is an edit of a rhythmically delicious afrobeat production with a mysterious vocal coating the surface.. The track blends a thumping kick drum. a textured guitar line and a fun stab ensemble in what is a slow-burning, engrossing groover. Two years after his collaborative project with Blonde Redhead, Lele Sacchi returns on Rebirth with the explosive ‘Dreaming Won’t Do’.
 One of the icons of Italy's electronic, house music scene, behind the decks since 1995 and still a driving force behind Milan's clubbing scene, Lele Sacchi  released music on some cool labels such as Moodmusic, Soul Clap, Systematic, 20-20 Vision, Get Physical, Internasjonal (Prins Thomas’ label). He is still running Radio2 Inthemix on the national state FM RAI and launched his own night ‘Iconic’ in 2017.
 
‘Dreaming Won’t Do’ is a cheecky and charminig disco track with an infectious melody and a balearic touch, taking  inspiration from italo disco.  The piano line coming after the breakdown is going to drive everyone nuts.
Lele says “This song represents my love for both soulful and electronic music. The mixture of 80’s sounding synths with house and a boogie-funk vocal is the full expression of my long standing djing carreer. And it’s an honor to have such great artists an friends like Tiger & Woods and Benoit & Sergio on remix duty. They both did killer versions !"

The mysterious duo Tiger & Woods are back with another powder-laced slice of disco-house with a killer groove. From Washington, DC's Benoit & Sergio delivered a remix adding a deeper vibe with heavier bass  and spacious chords. A strong release !

Some might wonder, others will understand. The reason: Toy Tonics is made by the same guys who used to run the (currently sleeping) indie disco label GOMMA where Dimitri & Rocca released couple of EPs some years ago.

Hell Yeah welcomes the red hot pairing of Tuccillo and Willie Graff for a new four track EP that includes 'Gliding', as heard on the recent Buena Onda compilation. This is a serious serving for real DJs only.

Willie Graff & Tuccillo have been cooking up their delicious deep house dishes for more than a decade now on labels like Finale Sessions, Freerange and Circus Company. Tuccillo is also behind the Balearic Gabba classic 'Solo un Delay', and Graff - a born and bred White Isle native, who is also a long time cohort of Kenneth Bager`s Music For Dreams - is the youngest person to ever have a residency at the legendary Pacha nightclub. They have a rich sound palette that gets all horizontal and Mediterranean across these four fresh new tracks.

Day Side opener 'Crystal Ball' has a nimble bassline and bouncing kicks that get you on your toes while the lush synths do a playful dance up top. The excellent 'Gliding' track from the Buena Onda compilation is a super go slow anthem with scuffed up claps and lazy kicks that take you on a real trip far out to sea.

Flip on the Night Side and 'The Moment' picks up the pace, exploring late night deep house with a melodic air, distant whistles and subtle acid sounds that make for a tropical beach rave. Last of all, 'Tic Tac' is six minutes of dreamy rhythmic bliss, with delicate drums and new age ambiance washing over you like a cooling Azure breeze.

These are classy DJ weapons for those who know.
