For over twenty years now Belgium's Eskimo Recordings have discovered and nurtured some of the most loved names in dance music, releasing timeless albums from artists such as Lindstrøm & Prins Thomas, Satin Jackets and Aeroplane that have straddled the divide between electronica, Balearic house and leftfield pop. At the same time though the label has never lost sight of its roots in clubland, consistently tapping up the hottest names in the disco, house and techno to add their touch to each release and putting out groundbreaking compilations by the likes of Curses, Optimo, Psychemagik, Antal, Bill Brewster, The Glimmers and more.

'Eskimo Recordings presents The Remixes' then is a snapshot of the label's recent adventures in clubland, a 24 track tour of the underground. A globe-trotting compilation, 'Eskimo Recordings presents The Remixes' sums up the eclectic and unceasingly curious approach of the label and its selector-in-chief, Captain E. This is the sound of dark Berlin basements, festivals in Mexico City, boat parties in the Adriatic and rooftop parties in Tel Aviv, music that transcends time and place. Over two decades on from the legendary parties at the Eskimo Fabriek in Ghent that gave the label its name, Eskimo Recordings' insatiable appetite for new electronic music remains unabated and the wild spirit and ambition to keep pushing boundaries, that first put the Belgium label on the map, still shines as bright as ever.

Franz Matthews & Local Suicide - Tutan Jamon (Chaim Remix)

Panthera Krause joins the Lobster Theremin stable with a mid-summer trip into the heart of the sun. Drawing on a plethora of classic house influences, Krause weaves these into a style which is a at once recognisable yet uniquely his own, production-wise drawing as much from the MPC-led West Coast beat scene as the European house approach. 

'Rules' kicks off the EP with a serious throwing of the gauntlet.. A slightly shuffled beat being quickly overtaken by a groove-hefty wandering bassline that bobs it's way around a melodic 8-bar refrain, suddenly smothered and smudged by the glowing warmth of sun-tinged pads. Pure summer analogue headiness distilled into 6 minutes of terrace-slaying bliss. 

On the flip, 'Rewo' takes a dusty shakin' drum pattern and filters a cut-throat sampled 'n' filtered piano stab into the mix. All seemingly harmless until the gargantuan sub bass comes rumbling into the fray. Solid lobster pool-party action on a 5* LA hotel rooftop. 

Closing out the EP, and moving things into edits-y territory, is 'Them Flutes'. Although debatable whether there are actually discernible flutes in the track, the final number is built around a looping proto-disco element that steadily evolves while shoving a cattle-prod to the hips when those periodic chords hit.

Whiskey Disco continues to explore boundaries; blurring lines between original and edit, disco and oddity. WD47 is helmed by Dutchman, Olivier Boogie, an artist known for strengths across the spectrum, in previous releases, we’ve seen his editing on display, No Goodbye is a fine balance between original synthesis and editing panache. Thoma Cher is a newcomer to the edit scene, but has been heavily involved in a disco and house renaissance occurring in Shanghai over the last few years. His club chops have honed an acute ear, we love what we’re hearing from him and can’t wait for more. 

The B-Side is everything a B-Side should be: weird. Label staple, Alkalino guides us along a cosmic journey of boogie-down grooves. Arps, baby. We love em. SF crew, JP Soul & Anthony Mansfield have been attracting serious attention of late between outings on Roam Recordings and sightings at the famous Burning Man camp, Disco Knights. To say they are ravelords is an understatement. Their pedigree is on full display in Warlord, equal parts Arp energy and HUGE (HUGE) lead, the right balance of fun and cheese.

Given their longstanding working relationship with D.K - a producer whose music is rarely less than rush-inducing in its' melodic positivity - its little surprise Antinote are seduced by the Mind Lotion project from Australian producer Mic Newman aka Fantastic Man. Described as "a musical travel-log, consisting of eight pieces, written over two years, which are recollections of experiences, moments in time from trips," Altitude Attitudes is every bit as woozy, breezy, sun-kissed and blissful as you'd expect. Highlights are plentiful, from the synthesized panpipes and watery electronics of "Atmopsherica", and tropical, Balearic jazz-funk of "Hotel Breakfast", to the glistening, wide-eyed brilliance of "Rainbow Delta", and chiming, sunrise disco of "Astro Girl" premiered here.

Jay Rossi, aka East London DJ stalwart Jac The Disco, returns with the Highest Heights EP, which will be released digitally on US label Wonder Stories. 10 years of DJing all over London at venues like fabric, XOYO, 93 Feet East and the Queen of Hoxton has left Rossi with an instinctive grasp of what works on the dancefloor. 

‘Good Times’, a low-slung underground disco number that really speaks to the hips as its lazy, sun-drenched vibes echo through the ether. Anchored by a sinuously tropical guitar bassline, soaring FX and scintillating claps, this number really highlights the warm groove-led aesthetic that’s central to the whole Jac The Disco sound.

Hailed as “propulsive and zen” by Resident Advisor and championed by DJs including Dj T, Red Axes, Perel & Acid Washed, the tracks have now been giving a fresh rub, with Eskimo going one better even than the genie from the Arabian Nights and fulfilling 4 wishes summoning up remixes from Manfredas, Chaim, NTEIBINT and The Oddness.

First out of the trap is Lithuanian producer Manfredas. Having made a name for himself with releases on labels like Les Disques de la Mort, Multi Culti and I’m A Cliché, Manfredas turns in a head spinning remix of Tutan Jamon, teasing out and extending the track in a masterclass of delayed gratification that eventually dissolves into acidic bleeps and drones. https://soundcloud.com/manfredas

Berlin producers @Franz-matthews & @LocalSuicide debuts their 2 track EP with @Eskimorecordings that have made its presence in the electronic music not only through their releases but also with their infamous parties that started in Ghent since 1998. Franz and Local Suicide have created a track that has been hailed by the resident advisor as propulsive and zen and that suits the name os the track “Meditation” and re-interpretation responsibilities have been taken by Chaim, The Oddness, Mandredas, and @NTEIBINT.

We are happy to premiere the Nteibint’s instrumental version which transcends this propulsive and zen track to a state of bliss. This one is certainly for the after-hours.
