Hot on the heels from releases on Ivan Smagghe’s Les Disques De la mort and Cormac’s Polari; Zillas on Acid prepare their debut EP for Jordan Nocturne's Belfast based label, featuring three impressive acid-drenched cuts and a stellar remix from Vanessa Worm - an artist whose impressive debut album on Optimo Music was one of the stand-out releases of 2020.

The clue’s in the name, and while acid may be the centerpiece of the EP, each track varies in sonic sensibility as we delve deeper into the duo's futuristic sound palette.

Title track Sorry I was in VR is a serotonin-boosting chugger with earwriggle synth stabs that highlight the pair's ear for melody, while From Afar - futuristic and bold - blends other-worldly sounds with brooding percussion. Vanessa Worm's rendition goes back to basics with a muscular drum-led approach; punchy kicks and bouncy aesthetics churning out a hypnotic wobbler that highlights the euphoria that can be discovered in simplicity.

He wasn't afraid is a downtempo voyage drawn in distinct and vivid colour. Deep bass notes and twangling synths hang in dark space while an acid arpeggio glides through the twinkling vortex. “He wasn’t afraid” cries out in the distance, giving us the push to move forward, one step at a time.

Nocturne has a holistic approach to each release - combining art, music and meaning at every turn. With its roots firmly planted in Belfast and one eye on the rest of the world - 2021 is set to be a busy year for the young forward-thinking imprint

The B-Side of the six-track compilation on @sameheads opens with @automatenfall - a hardware electronic three piece, previously appearing live at Sameheads during a “My Friend calls it K-Jazz” event. A yearning that eventually gets us on a spiritual path and headed toward enlightenment through the meandering melange of chimes, that little sounds that usually overcome us in the weirdest of times.

PREMIERE - Herzel x Metropolitan Soul Museum - Modulearic - (Benedikt Frey Remix) (Polymath)

Human Endeavour Records, the newest member of the Ransom Note Records label family, returns with ‘Confession Time’, its second release and first solo artist EP from Anastasia Zems.

Hot on the heels of the inaugural release, a Various Artists EP featuring six producers from across the world, they welcome the DJ, vocalist and producer for a four-track EP of heads down, mid-tempo sludge that sees her thread the needle between acid, EBM, new beat and cold wave.

With opener ‘Underwear’ Anastasia plots a course into murky depths. The most club-ready cut on the release, it’s driven by a pulsating acid line and rumbling bass that soon give way to hypnotic synth patterns and Anastasia’s sultry, commanding spoken word.

On the inspiration behind the EP, Anastasia explains: “Behind each of the tracks there is a story about something personal. It so happens that my vocals usually appear in tracks during improvisation and most often do not change. This is my way of expressing feelings. It turns out that this is the time for confession.”

As a DJ and producer Anastasia Zems chases a counterpart to her urban upbringing, drawing inspiration from the tribal sounds of imagined rainforests. Her psychedelic, rhythmic productions, which she laces with her signature mysterious vocals have earned her singles, remixes and EPs on labels like Needs, Les Yeux Orange, ИДА, Fucanglong Files and Whypeopledance.

Human Endeavour is the newest addition to Ransom Note Records’ family of sub-labels. Curated and run by Ransom Note Editor, and one half of DJ duo Kiara Scuro, Rosie Ama Cain, the label will be a “space for artists who are exploring the dark, deep and hypnotic corners of the musical spectrum.

Parisian Versatile Records continues to release serie of dubs to Etienne Jaumet's - '8 Regards Obliques' LP which was launched exactly one year ago 1st November 2018.
After Dubs Vol. 1 where I:Cube and DJ Sotofett were the main protagonists, Versatile offering you Vol. 2 of this 7" serie with dub rework from Etienne Jaumet's himself and Belgian, Brussels hero, 50% of Front De Cadeaux - Maurizio Athome AKA DJ ATHOME, who took the original and turn it into slow paced analogue jam with a club vox which although distant is also soothing, like the spiraling disembodied spirit you can hear in the dark room. This track has Duke Ellington base although there is still a sense of menace deep down between the kick drums and the bass.
The dub is exactly the sort of track you want to hear on the radio before you go out,  as you climb into the centre of the dancefloor with your couple and will stay with you long after the last note plays out, much like the end credits on the soundtrack to a tense spy movie.
