Pete Tong, recently awarded the Music Industry Trust Award in recognition of outstanding contribution, is fair to say has been electronic music’s foremost global ambassador. So, it’s fitting he’s looked overseas, specifically Russia, on his latest collaboration to join forces with Goom Gum, a duo who are now at the vanguard of the country’s burgeoning dance scene.

Pete explains how the project came about, “I’d been a growing fan of Goom Gum and ended up signing their re-version of Depeche Modes’ ‘Master & Servant’ to TSZ Recordings, a new label I started in 2019. Just before the pandemic the guys sent me a rough sketch of ‘Signal’ and asked if I wanted to collaborate. After playing it out a few times and adding some ideas and arrangement changes, I dropped it in Tulum and the crowd went crazy, which I was grateful to experience because it was one of my last big shows before lockdown.”

“We’re delighted Pete came onboard for ‘Signal’”, Goom Gum continue, “His support of our work has been amazing, but to get to actually work together was beyond our wildest expectations. His experience and insight helped craft the track into a total dancefloor bomb. We’ve been road testing it at our gigs lately and, trust us, it works!”

But the track’s evolution doesn’t end there. Inspired by the Tulum party, Pete hit upon the idea of creating a version dedicated to the Mexican clubbing mecca at, of all places, a dinner party! “At my house in LA we had a Moroccan room and my wife used to throw these incredible soirées. One night we even had a belly dancer and an amazing percussionist called Marc El Khouri. I played him ‘Signal’ (he loved it) and asked him to record some authentic percussion and tabla sounds inspired by my DJ set - and the Tulum version was born!”, he exclaims.

The project’s global theme is enhanced further with remixes from Berlin’s Anja Schneider and another fast-rising Russian star, Bora Uzer. Anja displays real studio prowess by delivering two different remixes, the electronica inspired ‘Break The Signal’ alongside a wonderfully warm ‘Deep Code’ version, which returns to 4/4 and a sound redolent of clubbing in the German capital; whilst Bora’s mix injects a real dose of energy and emotion to further cement its peak time credentials.

“We’re so happy to finally release ‘Signal’”, Pete and Goom Gum conclude in unison, “we had nowhere to play it for 18 months so can’t wait to get it out there.”

Since its release in 2014, 'Gamma Ray' has been one of MB Disco's (@mbdisco) best-selling tracks. Now it gets reinvigorated with fresh remixes from Pete Herbert, Swedish Disco Jets and label head Martin Brodin (@martinbrodin).

The original was a collaboration between Brodin and Dumb Dan and offered serious disco heat. First to remix it is a man who is a master of such sounds, Pete Herbert. The UK veteran has done it all over the years, played every major club and festival and worked closely with labels like Disco Deviance, Nang and Gomma. His glorious take has vamping chords building the funk over chunky, rump-wiggling drums. At the breakdown, the exquisite synth work shines through and brings the cosmic vibes before the drums roll again.

Swedish Disco Jets is a fresh and exciting new supergroup made up of Martin Brodin and Chris Gustafsson aka Playmaker, who has featured on labels like Subliminal, Illegal Beats and Peppermint Jam. Their stylish remix is a glossy, uptempo disco-house groove with shiny pads and emotive leads that rain down from the heavens.

Last of all comes a version from Swedish mainstay and long-time disco pin-up Martin Brodin himself. His fantastic Hulabaluba remix is a warming five-minute masterclass with steamy vocal coos and sunset chords that have you thinking of open-air dancing by the beach.

This is a dazzling package that brings new life to a modern classic.

Mexican label Duro welcomes Esprit Divers, the new alias of Coyu, the celebrated Catalan DJ and founder of Suara. After being published on Kompakt's Speicher X series with 'Turbulentos', the Catalan DJ returns with ‘Neophobia’, a two original EP with a tremendous remix from English producer Third Son.

“Eclecticism and diversity is something that has followed me since I started to get interest on music. This is why I have decided to split my projects and create Esprit Divers, who will be in continuous motion seeking for different sounds, based on the idea of music of contrast: light and dark, sorrow and hope, mind and soul.” Esprit Divers

The extraordinary opener is "Slow Retrogress", a cut with solid drums like an iron horse, magnetic rolling bass, an edged melody, and hallucinating vocals. The moment where the train derails and plummets down the tunnel. "Neophobia" might sound like a classic tech house groove, but as it goes along it twists and turns out of reality in a deep and mind-blowing way. The drums and bass create the never-ending mental loop, until the spell is broken by the horns of veracity accompanying the lead vocal, only to be suddenly dumped again to the loophole.

Last of all is the remix from Polymath’s Third Son, a more upbeat and playful cut. The glitchy and erroneous percussions slowly introduce you to then be greeted by a neat and cool synthesizer. Creating a majestic, heterogeneous and open atmosphere.
