The man in charge of the 30th release of Playground Records is none other than Martin Noise. The co-founder of the label takes the reins of this psychedelic journey, full of organicity and movement. An EP with 2 original productions in addition to 2 tasteful remixes by Bufi and Middle Sky Boom. A reference influenced by his life in Catalonia and his last trips to the East. Welcome to the DUI.

The starting point is ‘Pis Turístic’ and its groovy percussions. The gallop of a giant bassline envelops us. Sacred songs are heard in the distance. The ritual has begun. A peaceful melody enters our body to heal it. We are one with music. A drunken beat with spiritual choruses opens 'Pleguem', the second track on this release. Everything quickly melts into acid modulations. An aura of mystery and darkness falls on the track. Screams and a hard snare rises to the top. Everything is lysergic. The balafon makes its appearance to relieve the heat like a bucket of cold water. We are fine now and we can't stop dancing.

The first remix comes from the Israeli Middle Sky Boom who takes 'Pis Turístic' to give it his personal touch. The first beats are loaded with a very special flavor, like a Middle Eastern cumbia accompanied by a rock bassline. The landscape gets weird, the oscilloscopes go
crazy. The frenzied flow does the rest.

The final act is performed by the great Mexican producer Bufi who remixes 'Pleguem'. An epic fight of cosmic drums and some exotic modulations open this track. Suddenly, after the drop, a tropical and intergalactic funk takes over. A deep bass line speaks with acidic twists.

We are delighted to launch this series in India in collaboration with SUBMERGE - India’s leading dance music collective founded by Nikhil Chinappa. We at SINCHI got the opportunity to have a conversation on the status of the music scene, culture, gender roles, and various challenges it faces along with India’s unique ability to transform the challenges into opportunities with both Nikhil & collective member Manny, who also curated 3 artists who have put together sets, showcasing a distinctly Indian underground sound that represents the scene in its authentic form. 
We will release one mix per week on Thursdays during the month of November and kick this off with 8-Bit Culprit, as he delivers an impeccable set. This is what curator manny has to say about him "8-Bit Culprit is easily one of my fav producers in India at the moment and one to keep an eye out for in the future. He is a regular fixture on top Indian labels like Quilla and Soupherb and I felt his signature moody breaks set would be an ideal fit for this series.  He put together an incredible 60mins set which includes 7 unreleased tracks of his and even his edit of a Bollywood classic by A. R Rahman"

Who is he?: @8-bit-culprit follows a simple ‘less is more’ take on music.
Producing music for over seven years, Faraz has evolved to attain a definite direction and has gained the right amount of maturity to create some serious dancefloor music. His habit of spending long hours in the studio has exposed him to diverse styles of music through which he gets his current inspiration.

With releases on Qilla Records, Soupherb Records, and the latest on Art Vibes, 8-Bit Culprit has already been receiving support from many mainstays in the underground dance music scene. During his sets at club shows and festivals, he strives to deliver his signature deep, dark and melancholic atmosphere of intelligent underground music to take people on an unforgettable journey.

Our 2nd mix from this series is from TOTOROTO (@SKIPSTERMUSIC), the alter ego of DJ SKIP who brings a multidimensional approach to Djing and turntablism. This is what curator Manny has to say about him: He is easily India’s most influential turntablist and one of the most versatile DJs in the country. He is an IDA world No.3, Redbull 3style world finalist, Multiple time DMC India winner besides having numerous other championships under his belt, and the first turntablist in the country to be on an Emmy award-nominated reality show. Who is he?: TOTOROTO is a brainchild of @Skipstermusic also known as DJ SKIP. With this new moniker, DJ skip presents the experimental more independent style of music by combining electronic sounds from analog machines and sampling organic foley sounds as well as old Indian cinema. 

His recent work “Change Hobe Pro Scene from his latest EP  East Ended Play got great response also it was the first-ever Bangla (Regional Language) Track to feature on VH1 India. 

In the field of music for more than 16 years he has managed to gain a reputation of being one of the most technical and versatile DJ in the industry.  With 5 national championship titles under his belt he has also claimed the title for NO.3 DJ in the world in the IDA world DJ championship held in Poland. His debut album Bass & Tings (2016) was highly appreciated by the DJ industry and the tracks had been used by major fashion labels for their collection as well.

We at Sinchi got the opportunity to have a conversation on the status of the music scene, culture, gender roles, and various challenges it faces along with India’s unique ability to transform the challenges into opportunities with both Nikhil & collective member Manny, who also curated 3 artists who have put together sets, showcasing a distinctly Indian underground sound that represents the scene in its authentic form. Our 3rd and final mix from this series is from the curator himself MANNY(@mannymusicin). A decade and a half at the frontline of heavyweight club sonic, constantly breaking boundaries of sound and inspiring a new generation of DJs, Manny has held a commanding presence over the underground dance music scene. Manny’s musical contributions has proved to be a game changer, laying the foundation for dance music in Chennai. and in becoming an industry icon in his home city. Also, at the core of India’s favourite live electronica act BLANK, he is one of Chennai's most revered underground music exports. 

With a clear and urgent mission from the beginning of his highly decorated career, Manny aimed to push away the mediocre, the over-hyped and the obsolete to bring to light his vision of the new and important. Certified Sound Engineer from SAE, Manny started off as one of the co-founders and flagship DJs of 'Sound Faction’; a collective that helped push dance music at its infancy across India in 2003 to 2006. He then moved on to create ‘Cyfer’, India's first underground dance music podcast featuring exclusive work from the world's top DJs back in 2006. He was also responsible for the ‘Cyfer Sessions’ across the South of India where underground heavyweights, the likes of Jody Wisternoff, Jay Lumen, Martin Roth and more would tour India for the first time. 

In 2010, Manny focused his artistic ambitions towards a new project which resulted in becoming India's. No.1 Pro DJ Act - BLaNK. His role as a DJ in BLaNK is a fine display of his natural musical capability and his signature sound. Being the heart of the band he along with DJ Skip and Nirupama steered it to success and BLaNK continues to be one of India’s favourite Live acts.

In 2018 Manny collaborated with DJ/ producer Ajmal to produce a full length album on Submerge Music called 11:11 to much success. The album hit 8 Beatport top 50 new releases charts in its first week and features  ‘Regiment Calling’ which climbed to no.2 on the afro house charts.

This showcase would have been incomplete if I hadn’t featured the extraordinary work coming out of the county right now by some of the finest producers from different genres. I have tried to fit in as much as I can in 60 mins. I wish I could have squeezed in more, but I think this would give one a pretty fair idea of the kind of talent and sounds in India at the moment

The fourth installment on When Disco Goes Wrong comes at us with a clear message: It aint what you got, it's what you do with what you have.
Do it well!

And in this case WDGW:s own head honcho Mindbender has put together some extraordinary dance floor magic with the help of acclaimed producer Magnus Asberg (Romana Records, Plastic City, Viva Recordings plus may more).

'Do it well' comes in five equally tasty and chunky portions: Mindbenders 'New York Mix' is a pumping fat bass laden stomper straight from a dirty abandoned meat packing district warehouse. 

The Magnus Asberg Remix jumps on a percussion groove train with a perfect double acid line driving it all the way down to dirty house central. Broken synth sounds on overdrive and expertly produced little bleeps and glitches throughout the track completes the journey. 

The 'Acid Mix' goes even deeper into the early morning floor territory, with a modulated siren like synth swirling around as the steady four to the floor groove keeps you in check. The 303 acid line sits perfect on top as dubby effects play out expanding into space. 

The next version brings arpeggiated fat 80s synth sound into a driving epic full on Italo Mix. With a boss bass line, disco claps and hammering snares, it is guaranteed to do some serious damage on a floor.

Last but not least, rounding off the EP is another original track. 'I Decided To Dance' is a dirty acid hippie affair with a soft spoken word theme and a deep infinite bass line that acts as the foundation for the track. An essential groover !

Producer & DJ, 8 Bit Culprit has an eclectic approach to dance music. His evolution is marked by the long hours he spends in his studio, researching the diverse musical styles that inspire him and Interpreting them with his knack for storytelling. Drawing inspiration from Acid house and other styles in that spectrum, he keeps things interesting by producing melodic riffs and hard hitting leads with the legendary TB 303. After more than a decade of producing genre-diverse music, he has landed on a sound that he is confident is his own.

As a DJ, he finds the truest expression of his multidimensional self in mixing multiple styles to create a dynamic listening experience. During his sets at clubs and festivals, he strives to deliver A mix of diverse genres and styles of underground music to take people on an unforgettable journey. He finds creative stimulation in collaborative projects and aims to make meaningful music that drives his growth as an artist and eventually as a person.
