Singing Practice Techniques

For some people singing comes naturally, for some it takes time to learn and its through the development of your singing practice techniques that will determine what your voice will sound like. Poor instruction, incorrect habits or the wrong interpretation of whatever ‘singing practice techniques’ will produce negative results! Firstly Breath management and posture are important. Your voice is a wind instrument. When you breathe in and out certain areas of the chest expand and contract naturally which is important to how you control your breath when singing! If you are sitting down or are in a hunched over position then you are resitricting the air flow but when your back is straight and your shoulders are relaxed you can produce a better sound. Tension in your posture is a problem because we get confused about with which muscles are used when standing and when singing. Therefore it is important to know which muscles are involved for good singing practice techniques, this will be explained in the courses provided.
Pitch control is the most noticeable factor for people to judge singers on. It is the ability to sing  notes and produce them in tune. Developing 'a good ear' that can hear the difference between what is ‘in tune’ and what is ‘out of tune’ is the first step in developing singing practice techniques. Secondly to access correct pitch without thinking comes down to ‘muscle memory’ (through practising exercises) in your voice box (Larynx). Like anything we do with our bodies, our body remembers it through repetition. 
Vocal Tone - Have you ever noticed how some singers sound more believable than others. This is referred to as your vocal tone. We change our tone all the time, and our voices are heavily equipped to do this. For example, when we are angry, happy, upset, depressed, excited, or there is a sense of real danger ahead! It is a natural function of our larynx so when it comes to singing we can do this also. And how do we develop this? Well it’s important to recognize it first of all, just like with pitch. Another thing you can do is to identify with the emotion of the song. Beyond this point it comes down to exercises designed to develop this area of singing practice and technique.
Warm up exercises are important and often overlooked. Think of a cold engine in the morning! You need to let it idle for a while before you start pushing it anywhere close to its limits. Without warming up an engine you will do damage over time. Or imagine jumping out of bed in the morning and sprinting down the road as fast as you can run! Horrible experience because your body isnt prepared at all! Same thing with your voice!
There are  many factors at play and areas to develop with good singing practice technique on this journey.
