I took a brief portion of a field recording I made several years ago of high tide in Provincetown Harbor (Provincetown, MA), and subjected it to a process inspired by Alvin Lucier's "I Am Sitting in a Room". I iteratively processed the sound through a convolution reverb using an impulse response (IR) from an empty concrete nuclear reactor hall, Each successive generation re-applies the reverb so that eventually we hear only the resonant frequencies in the space from which the IR was derived. This was a manual process, as I wanted to preserve the ever-increasing reverb tails, and also to control the reverb level to avoid digital distortion (which can be cool, but not what I was after).

When I assembled the segments into a single track, I decided to reverse the order so that the most highly-processed segment comes first, and the original recording is only heard at the end of the piece.

This track was inspired by the Disquiet Junto Project 0605 which simply states: "Compose a piece of music with as much silence as notes."

After some thought I created this track. There are many instruments and sounds, but they all play the same notes in unison at the same time.
The sections of pause (there is no silence in this track) are as long as the sections in where the instruments are playing. I also tried to keep the number of notes to a minimum, only 15 notes are played in this track.

Tristan Louth-Robins & ATW - Transient Drift (disquiet0610)

I used tracks by Andreas Kitzmann, Analoc, Krakenkraft and Tristan Louth Robins (and in other versions also by Ray Cobley and Debroc). Thanks a lot for being able to work with those.

I made several tracks with different techniques - from straight mixing to editing to different granular tools. The one I uploaded was entirely made with the fantastic Granchild by infinitedigits. What I like about it is the soft and mysterious beginning and foundation which is based on the track by Krakenkraft. Next come three parts by Tristan Louth Robins, Analoc and finally Andreas Kitzmann. It is a very quiet affair and has a certain Revanchol vibe to it.

For those wondering about the cover drawing: after finishing a track I usually google its title and take the first image search result I like to base a drawing on. Here I googled a combination of the original track names, catnip blink drift, and somewhere buried in the results was Trent Reznor… So him it was.
