Among the trees of a fabled wood, there dwells a feathered creature
Born of ash and flame infinite energy his defining feature
Perched high among the trees
Doing whatsoever he should please

From high above he sees mortal passersby 
For them he hasn't a care or the time
Yet for a most worthy cause he will fly
Swoop below to offer his allegiance
For a cause sufficiently romantic or grievous 

In this realm of the lofty he is not alone	
There is another for which this land is called home

Please forgive my poor Spanish skills, it has been a long time since I have used it; I could go on but I will leave it at this.

This one started when the word "ayúdame" randomly popped into my head, the rest followed soon after. It was during a recent dark period in my life. I had planned on posting my first Spanish work with much "nicer" words but those are more difficult and I need help with them.

DARK MANDALA

a place of rest
a place of solace
a place the searching seek

one step at a time
marching down the darkening passage
the light diminishing with every step
the portal seals itself behind
the hope of peace no longer exists to find

anticipation of the unknown only intensifies the terror
driving the will in opposing directions
a vivisection
tearing

the spirit bound, within and without
fear entombs
the bleak is all that remains calm

there is no in
there is no out
there is no end

loss of sight
loss of vision
sanctuary now turned prison

wandering through the black
seeking release
seeking an out

boundless but fortressed in
every beginning its own end
encircled by the infinite eternal

My mind is uncontained
It takes over my brain
Sanity, madness has now slain
The only sensation left is pain

Of body and mind
Pours out in time
Forever lost never to find
It has begun, the infinite decline

Now resigned to this fate
Now in this place, I can never vacate
No other path exists to take
I've begun to bleed, it is too late

Anger grows deep within

Cruel Wind

Been walking a long time, a long ways now -
Pressed through the storm, fought my way free
The chill still lingers in my bones; forsaken and forgotten
But for the bitter pain
She left me cold
I withered alone
Broken heart…though I was blind
Thought I was still hers, but it was a lie
Still in love, still committed
To keep my vow

This track has been a work in progress for Nick and I over quite some time. The delay is really on me, but we are both pleased with the final outcome and hope you all are too!

This collaboration began years ago. I heard MJG Sabre's exquisite peice, "Drummer Boy" and instantly fell in love. I don't really remember how it all started but I hope my words add to his wonderful, touching work. See below for the MJG Sabre's original inspiration... A quick version for context: a drummer boy in the French military whose role put them front and center in battle.

This is the story about Joseph Bara, a 14-year-old French Republican drummer at the time of the War in the Vendée 1793. He was killed by royalist counter-revolutionaries, supposedly while he was shouting "Long live the Republic!". His body was interred at the Panthéon along with other national heroes.

A Drummer was the responsible for the drums in the army for use on the battlefield. Until well into the 19th century, western armies recruited young boys to act as drummers. The drums were an important part of the battlefield communications system. Although there were usually official age limits, these were often ignored; the youngest boys were sometimes treated as mascots by the adult soldiers. The life of a drummer boy appeared rather glamorous and as a result, boys would sometimes run away from home to enlist.
