Biography

In 2008 Sir Cypher completed his Media Arts Degree in Music at the Waikato Institute of Technology. It was here that he met Mr Samy'samson and Sax'imus. Together they formed 'Knights of the DUB Table', combining elements of Reggae, Drum‘n’Bass, Hip-Hop and Rock into their own fusion of Dub flavoured music with powerful high-energy performances.

Since their inception the Knights have performed alongside some of New Zealand’s best-known Reggae/Dub acts including Katchafire, dDub, Rhombus, Cornerstone Roots, Opensouls, Optimus Gryme, Tiki Taane, The Black Seeds, popular Australian Dub outfit The Versionaries, American Reggae heavyweights Groundation, and wowed crowds at festivals up and down Aotearoa.

2009 saw the Knights win the York Street Band Experiments, and in 2010 they released the 'Tronic EP'. This debut EP release contained four original tracks and included bonus remixes from Tiki Taane, Optimus Gryme, AUM, Undertow and their very own Mr Samy'samson. It was released independently through their label 'Flax Roots Records', and distributed by 'Border Music'.

Cypher also became a resident MC for 'Tui SoundSystem' in 2010. The electronic group combines elements of Dubstep, Jungle and Drum’n’Bass with raw rhymes. With Tui SoundSystem, Cypher has performed at high profile gigs alongside Peacekeepers, Cornerstone Roots, Soundscape Festival, Auckland University Orientation Festival, Raglan Sunday Sessions at The Yot Club, Summervines Dance Party, The Roots Festival, Kaikoura Roots Festival amongst others. Cypher is featured on the track 'Commonality' on Tui SoundSystems debut EP which was released in 2011.

In 2011 the Knights released their debut album 'Way Of The DUB' (distributed by 'Border Music'). This ten track album has been given great reviews and earned the Knights a nomination for Best Urban Roots Album at the 2012 Maori Music Awards. It presents a further evolution in the Knights sound and songwriting skills and their future looks bright.

Sir Cypher has been busy crafting his first solo release, entering further into the world of electro and mashing up all the styles he loves. For this project however he decided to lay down the bass and focus his attention on the mic, electronic beats and soundscapes. Cypher has pulled in Mr Samy’samson to produce for him, and this debut release will also see a guest appearance from Majic.
