"Hot Bread" was recorded by Al and Martin on a Tascam 4 Track portastudio in 2003. It was released as a 10 track album called "Morning Music From Yesterday" and available only on a CD-R with a Black and white scan of the original blue ink drawing by Martin Nunez. A rarity available only to those in the Los Angeles area. Here is track #4 from The Smoking Trees 4 track demo release.

The Smoking Trees: Hot Bread (2003)

This recording was from one of two live sessions that we recorded on two separate rainy October nights in 2004 with our friend, Dolph Valdez. It's weird how it rained both times we played together with Dolph, but it set the scenery perfectly to jam out to. Anytime Al and I would record with other musicians, we recorded as The Smoking Trees & Co. (Co. meaning Company) This recording was the last of 5 live jams we recorded on the first night we ever played together. The sessions were makeshift and spontaneous. I basically put together a makeshift drum kit since we didn't have a full kit to play at Dolph's friend studio. His friend said he left his full kit there when he took off out of town for a few days, but he only left a few pieces. I had a snare, a down tuned tom for my upright "kick drum" since he had no kick drum. I had one cymbal, and I used a tambourine as my high hat. Al played mostly the bass, but did play guitar on a few jams. Dolph was on guitar and also played bass when Al and him switched. I basically started the track with a drum beat, and/or Al would lead in with a tempo and bass line. Then I'd kick the sticks in gear to let Dolph take over with his lead guitar licks, and maneuver where the tracks went to next. We recorded live on one track on a Tascam porta 4 track. Pretty good chemistry on the first and second try, however, there was no third...............yet.

Here is a track that I produced in 2002 for a known Los Angeles underground MC at the time. I couldn't find the master, that was never finished by the way, but I stumbled and found this instrumental of the 2002 session.

"As soon as it starts, I hear the beep of a smoke alarm that needs a battery replaced, so I know this was recorded at Al's house. Another hint for our band name because all recordings recorded at Al's house, have the beep of this smoke alarm. Eventually the battery was taken out or replaced, but these recordings can be dated because of this beep. "Countdown to the Sunset", Al on bass/vocals, me on drums/vocals & toy piano, in which I still have somewhere.

The Smoking Trees cover Gordon Lightfoot's 1970 release. "If you could read my Mind". This recording was initially recorded during the summer of 2015, while mixing "The Archer and The Bull". All instrumentation was performed by Sir Psych.

This recorded version was started originally for a movie soundtrack that was axed. It was recorded and vaulted as soon as the project was scrapped. I would've added more instrumentation and some solo's if the project was a go, but here it is as it was shelved. I was never much was for doing covers of songs, but I think I have been pretty successful in illustrating our versions.
