Re:Mark

The mix name is taken from the title of the book; Atoms, Bytes and Genes. There were 3 stages of discovery and invention that revolutionized our existence in the 20th century; discovery of atoms, creation of computer bytes, and then it came the discovery of genes.

Atoms Bytes Genes

This mix is dedicated to my brave brothers and sisters in Iran who are fighting against a murderous regime for everything that a normal life stands for. 

It starts with "Liberate" by Monarke in a dark and slow medium representing the political oppression before the recent movement in Iran. The female vocalist in this song represents Mahsa Amini, whose death by the oppressive regime's forces ingnited this revolution. 

In the next song, Sasha's remix of Innerbloom by Rüfüs Du Sol, there is a male vocalist symbolizing men. The vocal says "If you want me, If you need me, I'm yours" responding to the vocalist in the first song with sacrifices required to liberate her. The pace noticeably goes higher from here depicting action. 

The rest of the mix goes with a high pace in a mostly dark and rarely light medium. It also has a lot of harsh sounds and noises portraying the violence and hardships in the whole movement.

It finishes with a hopeful theme, where it marks the end of a dark era. May it all be prosperous and beautiful in the end.

Woman Life Freedom

100 Days of Solitude is to remember the Woman Life Freedom movement on its 100th day. The title is taken from Gabriel García Márquez's classic; "One Hundred Years of Solitude". I say solitude because my people have been left alone in their fight against the Islamic regime. I played part of this mix at NYE 2023 at a party and decided to post it for you here as well. It is a heavy mix from a heavy heart.

I truly hope that in this new year my compatriots gain the freedom they deserve. I wish that one day, when this regime is no longer there, I play this mix live with a big crowd on a rooftop in Tehran at the sunset of a hot summer day. 

The artwork is by Marjan Vafaeian. She has drawn this piece for the Woman Life Freedom movement. "Any one person killed, there will be thousands behind him/her" was one of the slogans chanted in the protests in Iran and this piece depicts that slogan. 100 Days of Solitude is also in double beats; any one beat, there is another behind it.

100 Days of Solitude

In the memory of the students attacked with poisonous gas in schools across Iran, I am dedicating this mix to them. The use of unpopular Flanger effect in different spots (especially in the final track) represents the excruciating pain of such chemical attacks.

Chemical Metamorphosis

A while back, I had an exhilarating and yet scary vision during a psychedelic trip. I was by myself in my apartment -a tiny flat in a tower- in the heart of downtown.

At the peak of the trip, I stepped out of my body and saw myself from out of the window somewhere in the sky; as if my soul was hovering in the air outside and was looking at my body sitting on the couch in my apartment. Then I looked out of the window looking for the person who was observing me. I didn't see myself, but I saw all the towers and their concrete walls turned to glass. All the buildings looked transparent and it was as if I could see through all the apartment units and what lied within them. They looked like loads of see-through cubes stacked on top of each other;  a never-ending massive tesseract.

At the end of the trip I couldn't distinguish what's real and what's not. I laid on the bed thinking that insanity is as real as I am seeing it. I was thinking of all the loved ones and how they will forget about me if the state I am in is to remain permanently. This worry of an altered reality persisting for the rest of my life was one of the scariest experiences I've ever had. 

This mix starts dark and progresses to lighter tunes comprising of melodic and progressive songs I really enjoyed listening to. I listened to some of these songs on that trip as well.

Fractal Tesseract

I opened the night with this set amongst friends at Vault in Vancouver at an event where Namito was the headliner. This was one rare event that I decided to play publicly. The set starts slow and deep and in the second half, it progresses to a more melodic tone. Hope you enjoy!

Vault

This was my backup set for the night I played for Namito. Post-event I started feeling a little distressed about my lung health. After years of smoking, I had the calling to quite. I went on a hike to test out my lungs (hence the name; Sweaty Lungs) during which I listened to this mix again and there was a part that resonated with me the most; Breathe In by Artbat. In the middle of the woods on a steep hike, I stopped and raised my head, looking into all the greenery around. I still remember those moments...Breathe In, Breathe Out...that's the anchor of life and we almost always forget it.

This is Volume I. There will be a Volume II which relates to the current days as I am writing this text (Copper Nerves). I decided to have one name and give it volumes as they happened kinda back to back.

Sweaty Lungs & Copper Nerves (Vol I)

This mix reflects one of the darkest hours of my life. 
Volume II happened during an intense nervous breakdown I experienced at the beginning of January, which followed my experience in Volume I chronologically (hence the name; Copper Nerves). 
I am still dealing with it. It's as if I am feeling all my nerves from my brain to my spine to the tip of my toes and fingers. The mix is hard to listen to in general. It's mostly harsh; manifesting what I am going through.
