Spears to Stars

In the distant north a crimson light blankets the sky, a fiery second sunrise. It is the workings of an ancient and terrible power. Ashwing the Insatiable breathes once more. Revived, or healed by some formidable, mysterious force, the ancient dragon warlord has launched a war of conquest against the rest of the earth. The old alliance between dragons and Walkers lays in tatters, stained by the blood of betrayal and wreathed in the smoke of grim mystery. A draconic army stands poised to drag the world into an age ruled by talon and wing and claw.

Only you, feeble adventurers, have any chance at uniting the remaining kingdoms and stopping him.

But it may already be too late...

An orchestral rendition of the moment of The Adventure Zone made me pull over because I was shouting too hard to drive. I took a few liberties with the tune, especially at the end there. Hopefully no one minds too much.

In response to the protests and subsequent fallout, several across the Immortal City have taken a more fervent, if quieter stance. Effigies of the one who fought with the head of the Organizer's army appear in the shadows and corners of public spaces. The message is as simple as it is thunderous.

"We are not stopping."

Whether they want freedom, power, truth, justice, vengeance, mercy, or any other desire, whether they stand united or fraught with internal conflict, one thing unites those dissatisfied with the Immortal City. 

Eternal and relentless Longing. Things as they are cannot stand. Change must come. 

The Insurgent theme attempts to reflect this with a tense, uncertain opening, deep drums underscoring centuries of carefully laid plans made under ever watchful eyes. Beyond this is the Longing theme, a high, bitter melody that reaches for things it cannot grasp. The theme reflects the accelerating action of the next phrases as plots weave upon plots, and the slow spark is lit. By the time the listener realizes the momentum is building to a fever pitch it is already too late.

Fight!

"Hundreds of years ago the tyrant now known as the Broken King scoured the land of its magical heritage. Whole populations of creatures who called this country home were forced from them by spear and shield. Those who resisted were put to the sword. Sacred forests were burned. Ancient tomes were torn, families shattered, lineages wiped from the map. All of that wisdom, all of that knowledge, lost in the fires.

Or so you thought.

Now, deep in the recursive caverns of an ancient, long abandoned temple to the god of knowledge and learning, beyond the endless staircases and guardians of bone, beyond the maze and the mirrors, past the places where your hearts were tested, you find a vast chamber with a simple braizure in a sea of darkness.

When the new prince embraced his true heritage, taking his place as the link between the mundane and arcane in accordance with the natural magic of the land, the flame lights anew. 

It is not alone.

A moment later a second fire appears in midair, then another, and another, on and on, until you are all surrounded by flickering lights. They rise. They flash, and in an instant you realize that the Temple of Cognito was not destroyed. It was hidden until the time for restoration arrived. You are surrounded by dancing flames, and shelves upon shelves of books, scrolls, tablets and tapestries, and you realize as the light grows, that these shelves seem to stretch for miles.

 It's here. It's all here, preserved through the storm and the fire, the names of those lost, the magic thought forgotten, every incantation, every spell, every enchantment, every creature and precious treasure.

Perhaps, hidden in these halls, there is a chance to see this ravaged land restored."

Mettle And Metal

Finally got a sample pack for a quieter orchestra for emotive/atmospheric music and was playing around with it this week.

One thing led to another, so now here we have the opening credits theme for the fictional children's movie Maximillian Bartleby's Magnificent Wonderporium. It is a film about an old wizard who needs to find and train an apprentice to inherit his magical toystore/workshop.

Think one part Charlie and the Chocolate Place, one part Night at the Museum, and one part Doctor Who and you're probably not far off.
