Sirens Podcast 023: Rigopolar

Rigopolar is a Mexican electronic music producer celebrated for his unique blend of analog synths, arpeggios, and cosmic imagery, crafting an immersive auditory experience that prompts deep reflections on existence and the universe. Born and raised in Ensenada, Baja California, Rigopolar moved to Mexico City at 22, where he refined his craft for 13 years before moving to LA, New York, and ultimately settling in Miami.

His music weaves together the sounds of italo disco and techno with analog storytelling, leading listeners on a mental odyssey through time and space. This distinctive style has enthralled audiences and led to performances at various clubs and festivals worldwide. 

In 2022, Rigopolar launched his label 'Tour de Infinite,' debuting with the "Inversus Totalis EP," and followed by the "Situs EP" in 2023. His original productions and remixes have received support from notable artists such as Solomun, WhoMadeWho, Maceo Plex, Hernan Cattaneo, Be Svendsen, Thomas Koch (DJ T), Skatebard, Doctor Dru, Terr, Curses, and Massimiliano Pagliara, significantly impacting dancefloors around the globe.

The idiosyncratic musical style and production practices by Sheldon, Sidney Thompson (aka Sid Le Rock) are shaped by the DIY electronic-music movement that has encouraged his creativity to develop and thrive since the late ’90s. This is a contributing factor to his impressive discography that currently stands at twelve albums under his various aliases, including Sid’s collaborations with artists from various fields and musical genres such as Depeche Mode, DJ Koze, Placebo, and persistent impressions of the journeys he has made throughout the world as a result of his live music performances.

His abounding talent and prolificacy hasn’t gone unnoticed, as Sid has regularly released on labels like Beachcoma, My Favourite Robot, Kompakt, Mute Records and Hafendisko. Likewise, the Toronto-born artist has been remixed by the likes of DJ Koze, Acid Pauli and Gui Boratto, while remixing Depeche Mode, Placebo, Gui Boratto, Fairmont, further underpinning his underground credibility. However, despite his solid studio credentials, he has never sought fame or attention, instead remaining devoted to his craft, an ethos that is fully manifested in his productions.

Our thirteenth guest hails from France.

Bonnie Spacey, French and Marseille based Dj/Producer, has been rocking the dance floors since 2016.

She had her musical light bulb moment after hearing Miss Kittin & The Hacker for the first time. It was the turn of the millennium and this introduction led her to dive deeper and deeper into electronic music. When she eventually decided to pursue it herself, as a DJ and producer, she began to pair these sounds with another of her formative influences, her intrinsic love of guitars, which was passed down through her guitarist father.

She explores the intersection of these sounds though indie dance, heady techno and dark disco, in both her DJ sets and her own output. « Don’t », her first single, was an immediate success and played by Dixon, Jennifer Cardini and many others. Since then, she accumulated numerous releases on serious labels such as Phisica, Jeahmon! And Lumière Noire to name a few. This led her to perform on prestigious international clubs such as the Kaputt Club (Bogota), Bar Oriente (Mexico), Sisyphos and Renate (Berlin), Sala Upload (Barcelona) or Club Control (Bucarest).

As a space to share her own music and those of likeminded artists, in 2019 she launched Critical Monday, a label dedicated to a club-ready concoction of techno and rock-orientated music. So far she’s welcomed the likes of Curses, Rafael Cerato, Shubostar, Tony Y Not, Günce Aci and Mala Ika to the imprint, all of whom share her love of these potent sonics.

In this episode, she curated for us an eclectic mix of indie dance and electro soundscapes that we are sure you will enjoy.

RIGOPOLAR [Night Starter Set for ANIMO x DURO]

yulz is a DJ from Katowice, Poland, and a music enthusiast since childhood. She is a graduate of two music schools, but it was in DJing that she found a way to share her passion with others. Her selection is primarily based on hardgroove, hypnotic techno, indie dance, trance, and different forms of disco, though she strives not to limit herself to these genres. She seeks inspiration from various sources. Post-punk, synthpop, and new wave have played the most significant roles in her musical development, and she returns to these genres whenever she's not digging into the heavier side of her selection. She is a fan of synth, tribal, acid, and even cosmic sounds. Personally, she loves listening to live music, whether at concerts or DJ sets. Despite her short tenure, she has already performed at some of the noteworthy clubs on the Polish scene.

Her new mix features a blend of indie dance, space disco, dark disco, and italo disco, all inspired by otherworldly sounds that she loves.

Each release is a map to nowhere, with soundscapes that lead you deeper into the labyrinth of your own mind.

Celestino isn’t just making music. He’s playing god in his own little universe, where dinosaurs dance under dying suns and every beat could be your last. He’s not just a curator; he’s a cosmic trickster, offering you a glimpse into a world where the future is already a forgotten past. Ultimately, you realise it’s not just music—it’s a doorway, and Celestino holds the key.

Fast cars, Japanese whiskey and cigars with exotic island romances, Miss Zagato draws her sirens into the vortex of stolen moments and pain written in poetry and paradox. Miss Zagato was cofounder, coproducer and vocalist for Italo Disco/Dark Wave group Quattrovalvole in 2020-2021, with releases on international labels such as Oraculo Records, Disco Halal, Moodmusic, Secret Fusion, and Furioza. In late 2021 she set up her own analog studio in Wiltshire, where there are fewer speed cameras and more space for vintage race cars. Since then, solo and collab themes have popped up on some of the most vital platforms of the dark side of the force like, for instance, La Dame Noir, Kyma Komplex, Emerald & Doreen, Boite Music, Club Mackan, and Quixotical, just to name a few.
