R.I.P. Frankie Knuckles - The Godfather of House.

Frankie Knuckles was the resident DJ at The Warehouse
The Warehouse was a club established in Chicago in 1977.

It is today most famous for being what many consider to be the birthplace and heart of "house music" under its first musical director, DJ Frankie Knuckles.

He played an important role in developing and popularizing house music in Chicago during the 1980s when the genre was in its infancy. 

Due to his importance in the development of the genre, Knuckles was often known as "The Godfather of House Music".

His accomplishments earned him a Grammy Award in 1997. Knuckles was inducted into the Dance Music Hall of Fame in 2005 as recognition for his achievements.

Frankie, Rest In Peace. Thank you for changing our lives.

I recorded the interview with Ron at CD-R Berlin at club 'Prince Charles'. On this monthly event, professionals from the music industry give 'workshops'. Dj's, producers, musicians. Showing us how they work, what equipment they use. What their artistic vision is.

About Ron Trent:

"After experimenting with beat machines and a small keyboard in 1986, he began recording the track "Altered States" while still in high school. He released it on Armando's Warehouse Records in 1990. 

The track became a club hit among devotees of techno, despite Trent's grounding in the Chicago house scene. He then began working with Detroit producers such as Chez Damier, with whom he issued several singles before co-founding the label Prescription Records in 1993. They also worked with Berlin-based producer Maurizio.

Later in the 1990s, he moved to Brooklyn and put together a collaboration known as Urban Sound Gallery, or USG. He also worked with Anthony Nicholson there. He returned to Chicago in the 2000s."

Ron trent's productions sound amazing. He wanted to be an architect when he was young. But he became a sound architect - He shared this with us during the workshop.

Give his last album a listen "Raw Footage" a pretty damn good sounding album if you ask me. A sound architect, that's what the man is. Word.

Here is the first raw version of a track I'm working on.  It got some Sub Bass - not sure if your laptop or computer speakers will deliver the bass. This is the first edit of many more funky tracks to come.
