For too long, Eska has been the greatest singer you've never heard of. She's performed with a staggering array of talent from Grace Jones to Cinematic Orchestra, Bobby McFerrin to Matthew Herbert - the latter also being the producer of her new, self-titled album along with Dave Okumu and Eska herself. Reflecting her history of flying way above any genre boundaries, the album skims effortlessly through classical, folk, Latin rhythms, Rotary Connection style cosmic soul, experimental soundscapes and, in this song, rugged and rootsy reggae... all capped off with THAT voice.

Dåbermann is an electronic collective, consisting of Chris Muller, Timo Schmitz and Niklas Froese. They used to meet every now and then to improvise using Ableton and various gear and instruments. 

Back in 2011 we were planning on an album release together so the guys packed up and booked a beatiful remote little house in the woods for two weeks as a creative retreat of sorts. On their way there a storm broke and one of them got hit by a lightning. Nothing bad happened but for obvious reasons they couldn't focus on recording music and that's about all there is to it :)

This recording of one of their jam sessions dates back from 2009 and it has definitely stood the test of time. Maybe someday new stuff will surface, you never know..

Certain things just keep on keeping on seemingly oblivious to era or genre, simply because they are an enduringly good idea - and Penguin Café are the perfect example. The original Penguin Café Orchestra was founded in 1972, created an amazing fusion of minimalist composition, folk, electronics and more - producing several Balearic classics along the way - and continued until founder Simon Jeffes' death 25 years later. However, in 2009, Jeffes's son Arthur picked up the baton, gathered a new set of musicians, and has continued the musical mission as simply Penguin Cafe. Their new EP, forthcoming on 13th April, includes a remix exchange with Japanese legend Cornelius - but it was this bittersweet piece that grabbed us, and we're very happy to have it as our Debut today.

Sit down kids, and let us regale you in a story. Back in the day (roughly around when BR was shaking off the last of its early UStream trappings) there was a consistently ahead-of-the-curve clubnight happening in Whitechapel, and later Peckham. It went by the name of Wholemeal, putting on sets by the likes of Blawan, John Heckle, Leif, Bake All Caps, Al Tourettes and plenty more besides, with one 'Esselle' holding down a regular slot warming up the dance. Well now Wholemeal are back, pivoting toward the honourable business of releasing records; Esselle has also gained a first initial. Happy days all round.

"Until She Spoke" melds a skippy rhythm, punchy drums and the kind of Rhodes or Rhodes-alike organ slope-offs into something super well-balanced and supremely enjoyable. In spite of the nearly 7m runtime, this little earworm whips by in flash, maxing out replay value. It's going to be the sound of spring, and most likely summer too. Cop it imminently on Wholemeal Music.

T. Esselle "Until She Spoke" - Boiler Room Debuts

The offshoot label from one of our favourite clubnights in existence comes good yet again, with the second seriously weighty Debut from their side we've run in as many years. TIEF007 is the handiwork of fast-rising Manuel Fischer, a self-ascribed "Toolboy", and the do-over from Detroit's Amir Alexander is our pick of the litter.

Mr Alexander is a man so in thrall to the might and majesty of that raw acid sound that he's even set up a boutique imprint dedicated to just that, and like a true master he knows how to wield his weapons. The gurgling 303 doesn't overpower, instead shimmying round the original's distended voices and galloping groove, with a spare deployment of dry claps for good measure. There's a lovely bounce to the thing – it can be yours via Tief Music very soon indeed.

Miajica follows up on his ‘Second Spring’ EP on Origami Sound with a physical release that features remixes from Acid Pauli, Wareika and Alma Negra. The digital version will surface on November 2

There is a certain melancholy yet highly comforting mood that Miajica is good at conjuring through his more elaborate and sensitive tracks. The two originals on his 'I Forgot About Love' EP are probably the best examples in his discography so far of such a mood. Both the Middle Eastern themed 'I Forgot About Love' and the dubby 'Au bord de l'eau' are deep, groovy and immersive long-play tracks, devised for that ideal crowd that likes to indulge in the process and catch every detail.

Acid Pauli and Wareika contribute with even more brilliant detail work, retouching the originals in surprising and sophisticated ways. Acid Pauli gives his 'I Forgot About Acid' remix a minimalistic, spaced-out, acid infused twist, creating a tangible world of new sounds and superb musical moments. Wareika take their original - already an Alma Negra dub - out of its comfort zone and rework it into an anthem by adding extra spatiousness, an honest, universally-appealing vocal hook and perfecting everything around the soothing melody with the help of their own instrumentation.

"I Forgot About Love" is the seventh 12" release within our collective of labels. Wareika's Vocal Dub of "Au bord de l'eau" will be available exclusively on the 12" release, while the instrumental version replaces it on the digital version.

Keegan Bantom aka Keegs Bantom, a qualified Sound Engineer (Academy Of Sound Engineering), Producer and DJ. As a young high school student Keegan found an intense passion for music. The year 2005 served as a foundation to his producing journey after the introduction to a popular production software. Hip-Hop took frontier to the start of his musical journey, but with maturing taste and an immense desire to grow in music, Deep House rapidly became his forte.

Keegs Bantom has released music under labels such as Colourblind Records, Deep Resolute, UNO Mas, Kolour Recordings, Antidote Music & Do It Now Recordings, which he is also signed to.

This month Carhartt WIP Radio is bringing you a show by Adrian Sherwood and his legendary label On-U Sound. During a career of more than 30 years, Sherwood produced and remixed artists such as Lee "Scratch" Perry, Primal Scream, Depeche Mode or Einstürzende Neubauten amongst others. His label On-U Sound, formed in 1980, is worldwide known for cutting edge releases that are rooted somewhere between dub, experimental, Reggae, Post-punk and electronica. Furthermore many On-U Sound releases greatly influenced the sounds of today like ambient and techno. Recently many On-U Sound records of artists and collectives like African Head Charge, Singers & Players or Bim Sherman got re-released and Sherwood himself produced, dubbed and released contemporary bands like the Japanese trio Nisennenmondai. For Carhartt WIP Radio Adrian Sherwood tuned in a mix that grooves between the past, present and future of On-U Sound.

Biography:

Tribe Franko was born in Garankuwa, Pretoria on August 1, 1990. At the age of four he moved to Alexandra Township in Johannesburg and this is where the heart of music was bred. 

A boy who is playing a sound that is initially designed for an eighty-year-old ear but yet touch that “child” within you. His type of music is the revolution of House Music in the era of this age. It is a jazz-fusion-soul-lounge-afro-deep house music all cooked and served in one plate for your ear to enjoy and one spice is used to this urban meal… that is tribal (hence the name).

One hour given to this aspiring artist will change a soul as his gig is like a classroom and he is a teacher. Where his course covers the appreciation of, the listening skill and diversity towards music. He is an artist who can interpret a colour through a sound. A protégé I would call him but I would rather call him an aspiring maverick. One who mastered the rules and broke them, professionally.

Music Experience

Tribe Franko started DJing| Producing early 2010, and fascinatedly, he is self-taught and has managed to grow in his skills musically by give music all his time he enclosed to perfect the sound. Then he started to DJ as a resident DJ, so people could be familiar with his brand name and his music. After a year of producing| Djing, he was recognized by Sand Isle  who showed him everything he needed to know about producing a beat, then he went on to teach himself what he knows now, from piano to DJing and composing a song.
