SMZ is a largely self-produced experimental hip-hop artist from Scarborough, Ontario. He creates music that blends production techniques from various electronic music and hip-hop genres, and typically assembles distinct yet cohesive sonic journeys within one song. He also explores vocal elements extensively; employing various singing and rapping styles, often layered upon each other, to achieve his expression.

SMZ's work delves into the nature of the mind and its role in self-determination. He explores the pillars of perception, and re-arranges concepts and symbolisms into a new form of understanding. He believes in the power of the mind to access all the tools of the universe to transcend what we know as "experience", and delve into areas of energy and action beyond the limitations we've collectively applied to ourselves. Through his art, SMZ hopes to provide new vantage points on death and transformation - through filters of chaos and beauty - and relate the experience to an access of unlimited potential within all.

SMZ has been writing and producing music since 2007, and has been performing throughout the city of Toronto since 2014. He often combines high-energy tracks with stripped down acapellas and atmospheric journeys into spoken word. SMZ also explores his expression through videography, and shares his musical journey as 1/2 of The Universal Architects (@universalarchitects) with Oliver Jackson (@oliverjackson). He has a wide range of influences, including: Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar, Ab-Soul, Tech N9ne, Massive Attack, Die Antwoord, Lorn, Portishead, Death Grips, M.I.A., The Roots, and Nina Simone. Through these various realms of expression, SMZ aims to engage our collective shared reality and continue to illuminate it for others.
