Diahwolf worked on most of the music while I wrote and recorded the vocals. I’m glad he mixed the vocals because I can never mix my own vocals right. It was good to concentrate on being a writer and singer on this track rather than full on producer as well.

A university project where I tried blending dub and soul music into an album with a spiritual theme in the space of a month. I took ideas for the music from Heaven Bound, an early soul track by Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings. I enjoyed the challenge of this blend of genres and have learned much in the process. Self-Mastery - SisterSelf - Polaris

A project attempting to blend dub and soul music. From the spiritual concept album Polaris which was a university project created in one month. Thanks to Andrew Cox on trumpet who recorded the brass over lockdown when it was impossible to record them myself. It's been a great project showing me my strengths and weaknesses in music production, dub effects, and putting together a project quickly. The music didn't turn out to be very dubby and I'm considering how to improve this on the next experiment.

My second live dub mix and this time on an Audient analogue console so I could make use of my delay and reverb pedals and feedback loop the effects. I used a Spring King Reverb pedal and a Boss RE-20 which is based on the original Roland Space Echo RE-201, a classic dub delay unit. I'm happy with how well I controlled the feedback although I'd like to be bolder with it next time.
I love the way I arranged the track in the moment but I need to work the snare so much more. Listening back, I could hear how a barely affected snare creates stagnancy in a dub track and resolve to take more time to play with the snare and think of it as integral to the movement of the live dub mix.
