The second edition of the Rose Records limited 10" series comes courtesy of Junktion, whose releases on the likes of Outplay and Slow Town didn't only sell out at breakneck speed but also established him as one of Holland's biggest talents in discerning deephouse/disco circles.

Junktion does what he does best on this delightful little platter. The lolloping 'Running for Whatever' on the A is as infectious as they come, with loads of clever samples arranged over classy rolling drums and a deep, rubbery bassline. Flip over for Pale Blue Dot, a slightly tougher, trippier uptempo workout with spaced out pads, big drums, crisp hats and massive synth stabs that should whip up a real frenzy in a packed club. Killer pair of tunes from a producer that's very much on top of his game.

A) Junktion - Running from whatever

Dan Shake is probably best known more recently for being the first non-Detroit native to release on Moodyman’s legendary Maohgani Music label - and that was with this debut release, ever! Having built his name across the UK and overseas with regular shows at London’s Corsica Studios Sessions, Dimensions Festival and Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide to name but a few, Dan dropped his debut release via Mahogani music in early 2014, following up with a sold-out release on Bristol based Black Acre this year. Now the respected selector teams up with Wolf Music regular Medlar and joins the Delusions Of Grandeur family (home to the likes of Session Victim, 6th Borough Project and Toby Tobias) with the funk fuelled Walk EP.

Premiere: Dan Shake & Medlar - Walk

It's been a happy spectacle watching our friends at Lobster Theremin grow into the pink-bellied beast we see before us today. Their following has grown almost as quickly as their roster, snowballing via a release schedule that's as strong as it is frequent: a consistently welcome serve-up of Motor City-inspired house, dreamscape acid and narcotic techno. 

Late last year, Camp Lobster drilled deeper into the spectrum with Mörk, the label's darkling sub-imprint and home to its gloomiest techno. This week they inaugurate a new imprint, Distant Hawaii – a summer off-shoot for beach-coasting sunshine house. And its first release is exactly that: a wonderfully deep debut for Manchester man Hidden Spheres. 'Waiting' is our pick of the litter: a glowing thumper that's all butter-melt Rhodes lines, ecstatic vocal whoops, and tons of playful percussion. The perfect summer jam, basically – coming to a terrace near you very soon.

BIO SIXTINE 

Un immense studio au sommet d’une tour de la Défense. Au loin les lumières de Paris. A l’intérieur, un piano à queue désaccordé, des ordinateurs, des synthétiseurs de tous âges, des guitares acoustiques et électriques, des partitions noircies au crayon, des esquisses de textes froissées. 

C’est là qu’a été conçu et enregistré « Sweet Sixtine », premier album de Sixtine qui est une chanteuse autant qu’un groupe, formé avec Laury Chanty et le vétéran Eric Chédeville, bien connu des amateurs de dance-music électronique. Après avoir quitté l’école, à 14 ans, il a acheté son premier synthétiseur et, fort de sa formation en piano classique, a commencé à composer des musiques de séries télévisées et de films érotiques, notamment pour le producteur Marc Dorcel. 

Au début des années 90, Eric Chédeville plonge à corps perdu dans les raves techno. Il crée avec Médéric Nébinger le label Pumpking Records qui produit Jackson et Manu le Malin, et rencontre celui qui va devenir son collaborateur privilégié et meilleur ami : Guy-Manuel De Homem Christo, l'autre moitié du célèbre duo Daft Punk. Avec ce dernier, il fonde Crydamoure, label historique de ce que l’on appellera alors la french touch, puis un duo dénommé Le Knight Club. Crydamoure, comme Rico et The Wizard, est aussi l’un des nombreux alias d’Eric Chédeville qui reprend ses études à 21 ans afin de devenir un ingénieur du son et un producteur de premier plan. En témoigne, entre autres réalisations co-signées avec Guy Manuel pour de nombreux artistes, l’album « Sexuality » de Sébastien Tellier.
Sixtine, formée au violon classique, avait 16 ans et était fan des productions de Rico The Wizard, quand elle l’a rencontré. Elle partage depuis sa vie, à la ville comme à la scène. « Sweet Sixtine » se veut une évocation imagée de la passion sur le mode « Je t’aime moi non plus » qui caractérise la vie de tous les couples amoureux, confie-t-elle. 

Le premier envoi, intitulé « Press Start » et accompagné d’une vidéo croisant l’influence de « Peau d’Ane » et de « Phantom of the Paradise », déploie des synthétiseurs gorgés d’harmoniques et pastiche avec humour les années 80 de Visage et Imagination. 

Introduit par d’étranges arpèges de voix humaine, « The Love Disease » conjugue polyrythmes frénétiques et ampleur orchestrale comme autrefois Propaganda et Frankie Goes To Hollywood, annonciateurs de la techno-trance des années 90. Funky-rock (« The Perfect Recipe ») ou électro (« Shoot Shoot » et « One By One » comme un lointain hommage à Cerrone) les riffs et gimmicks sont efficaces. Parmi les collaborateurs venus apporter leur touche originale à cet album, il faut citer le compositeur de jazz Frank Hergott et le groupe Archigram (Crydamoure) qui co-signent respectivement avec Sixtine, « Raincheck », et « L’Exactitude » dont les synthétiseurs semblent décoller comme des fusées. Les fans de techno ne sont pas oubliés avec « I May Be A Lion » et ceux de la house garage new-yorkaise seront séduits par « Private Intercom », dont  les harmonies jazzy, la voix blanche et les chœurs vaporeux, évoquent un after rempli de top-models attendant le jet privé qui doit les conduire à leur prochain engagement. 

Pianiste en plus d’être régisseur de spectacles et jongleur de feu, Laury Chanty, assistant de Rico Chédeville et troisième membre de « Sixtine », permet au groupe lorsqu’il se produit sur scène d’offrir une véritable expérience musicale. Ce qui est plutôt rare dans l’univers de la musique de dance électronique et fait de « Sixtine » un groupe à part, à l’image de ses créateurs.
