SIZE OF A PLANET: PRESS RELEASE SPRING 2021.

In March 2020, as an era-defining pandemic swept the globe, and the UK went into its first national lockdown, a truly original project was born in the steel city of Sheffield. Size of a Planet is a ragtag collective of 19 diverse musicians, vocalists and producers with a not too shabby record of achievements, including World Music Awards, Grammy nominations, UK and US #1 hit records, and credits with the likes of Joe Strummer, Richard Hawley, Jarvis Cocker, Basement Jaxx, Florence and the Machine, Cassius, and Bob Sinclar. Originally conceived of by guitarist & producer Bryan Day as ‘summat to keep him sane, the project is a musical version of the old, the family fold-down paper game known as Consequences, Pass it On, or Exquisite Corpse. Bryan signed up 19 friends to his crazy concept, in which each person recorded a musical idea and emailed it on to the next in line, who would add their own bit of sonic alchemy. 19 passes later these initial ideas, now full to bursting with musical goodness triumphantly returned to their originators in glorious technicolour for a grand reveal with songs encompassing genres, from R&B & Acoustic Soul to Pop & Electronica.

The Size of a Planet project has emerged as an innovative and resourceful way for this mishmash of mates to focus their talents into creating fresh, new & original music, during a time of lockdowns & restrictions, which has had devastating consequences for artists & musicians across the globe. The results are truly remarkable; each musician’s contribution stays in sync with the needs of the track, whilst also flexing their considerable creative chops, resulting in some truly inspiring songs. It is now time for the project to emerge from the shadows & into the light.

Around March 2020, Bryan Day came up with a very interesting idea based on the game consequence or exquisite corpse as it is known France the game where you draw a body part and fold it down and pass it on to the next person in the group, this was an idea for something to keep a lot of musicians Bryan knew creative while stuck in lockdown and unable to gig or make money or get a furlough, it was initially called the pass it on project, which eventually became "Size of a planet!" as Steve explains, there was 19 musicians involved, from all fields and styles of music, they were put into Bryan's test tube in alphabetical order and each person started an idea off anything they wanted to do! and then past what was done to the next musician in the alphabetical email list! anyone could do anything they wanted Drums, Guitar part, Bassline, Vocals! whatever they wanted to do!

After each person had added something else to the musical parts or loops, they got, the idea built and built till eventually there were 19 tracks zipping around the internet growing with each person adding their additional ideas to what everyone had started, then eventually all 19 pieces of music slowly worked their way around each person eventually landing back with the originator who then got to hear it for the first time with all the other additional parts on, For more details

March 2020: As the UK went into it’s first national lockdown, a truly original project emerged - Size of A Planet. Nineteen diverse musicians, with a collective track record that includes World Music Awards, Grammy nominations, UK and US hit records, and credits with Joe Strummer, Richard Hawley, Jarvis Cocker, Florence and the Machine, Basement Jaxx, and many others.

Originally conceived by guitarist/producer Bryan Day, the project was loosely based on a musical version of the family paper fold-down game, known to many as Consequences or Pass It On. Nineteen musician friends signed up to Bryan’s idea, whereby each recorded a musical idea and emailed it on to the next person, until eventually, 19 passes later, the initial idea returned to its owner, in glorious amalgamation. The Size Of A Planet project emerged as an innovative and resourceful way for them all to focus their talents into creating new original music, during a time of lockdowns with devastating consequences for many musicians across the world.

The results are impressively coherent, while the musicians contribute a wide variety of instruments and vocal styles. Each musician’s contribution is sensitive to the needs of the song, while also flexing their considerable creative talents to come up with some truly original and inspiring tunes.
It is now time for the project to start to emerge into the light - Size of a Planet will be presenting their first EP on the Friday 23rd of April 2021 for you to judge for yourself.
